Homicide a year on the killing streets

If you like The Wire, and are okay with reading books, go buy this.

It started off a little slow and I wasn't so fond of how wordy it was (although if you've read any of Simon's blog posts in recent years, you'll find the writing in Homicide spare in comparison), plus I had a little trouble keeping all the names straight for a while. Get off my lawn. In any case, I kept pecking at it and at some point around the 20% mark, reading the book went from feeling like a chore to being one of the best parts of my day. Gonna buy The Corner next.

Rich and insightful. As a fan of The Wire it is very entertaining to learn were many of the stories and characters in the show were conceived.

While i enjoyed it, and you can't fault the level of detail and research behind this book, i just stopped caring. Somewhere around September
