Following the journey of Zak, Aisha, and Iona, the earthstars that Elder keeps her eye on, Red Leaves is almost like a time travel story, with the ghosts of the past helping the earthstars of today.
Red Leaves destroyed me. Maybe it was because of how close some of the events felt to my own life, or it was how they were protrayed, but regardless of the reason, I loved this book. The descriptions were beautiful and it had an otherwordly quality to the atmosphere and plot. My only complaint is that it was a little hard to follow the plot at some points, since the story was more focused on the internal journeys of the characters as opposed to a villain vs. hero story.
