I grew up reading Meg Cabots' books and although I started by reading her YA books, it wasn't until I read her adult fiction that I truly felt in love with her. Meg has just this easy way to write that you don't feel like you're reading a book, but instead this person whom you're really close with is telling you about their life. 
It's been a few years since I've read the last Heather Wells book and although I was initially concerned I was not going to remember important aspects of the story this did not matter. 
You could have not read any other book of this series and still have enjoyed it immensely. This is a great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next one!

So first things first: this is a very different beast from Size 12 is Not Fat (one of my favourite books to reread, you should check it out if you haven't already).

I came in looking for a perky breezy university murder story (seriously, read Size 12 is Not Fat you guys, it's a trip) and what I got was a book which, while being mostly perky and breezy in tone, was less about murder (although there is one, and it's pretty gruesome) and more about abusive relationships. 

Also endometriosis.

(NB these things are not happening to the same character.) 

I'm not mad, I just wasn't expecting it. 

There's one more book in this series, which I've not yet read but which I might have to track down now...intrigued to see where the story goes after this.

PS: One minor gripe (although it does come up every chapter) ... not really blown away by any of the songs in this one. Objectively I applaud all these fictional ladies taking charge, expressing themselves and writing their own lyrics but, subjectively, not my bag.
