Okay, so, my bad for assuming the guy I was going on a date with wasn't married. And my bad for taking him to a friend's house for dinner, only to find out my friend is also friends with his wife. Because, in fact, he is married. And she happens to be at my friend's house because her husband was busy working. Confused? So am I. Unsurprisingly, my date's wife is super angry about finding out that her husband is a cheating asshole. Girl, I get it. Then, to make matters more convoluted, there is the man sitting next to my date's wife. A man named King, who is apparently her brother, and who lives up to his name. And since my date is a two-timing prick, I'm not going to feel bad about drooling over King, especially since I'll never see him again. Or at least I don't plan to. I plan to take an Uber to the cheater's apartment to get my car keys. I plan for it to be quick. And if I had to list a thousand possible outcomes... witnessing my date's murder, being kidnapped by his killer, and then being forced to marry the super attractive but clearly deranged crime lord, would not have been on my Bingo card. But alas, here I am.

King was a story that I was really excited for after reading "Nero". King is the partner and best friend to Nero and his character really intrigued me. The story really pulls you in fast with the beginning. I love a great alpha male and this hero was just perfection. Then we have our heroine who was very dynamic and interesting at times. I did like her, I felt like she was strong in her own way. She is put in a difficult situation so I admire the moments in which she stands on her own but also understands when she needs to not push too much. I really enjoyed that moments of suspense at times with this. The whole plot though with King and going after the mayor's brother was ...odd and felt like a bit too much for what he did. The third act suspense plot came out of nowhere and I do think that could have been built up a bit better in the plot as a whole though. The romance though was beautiful and the writing is very addicting and entertaining. I do think this author writes in a very compelling way and I am loving it even if these books aren't five star reads.

the lifeline was quite absurd actually, could be better if the mmc's sister doesn't hate the fmc at the first sight.. but it's new, i guess. new means refreshing, so it's good. but again, sj tilly have no business writing a romance book for more than 30 chapters. it's 90ish chapters, for fuck sake! i like king better than nero though, he's so vocal about how he's proud of her. he shows her off. and they're pretty freaky together??? but small disappointment, there was no emotional attachment. there was no picturesque of sav's family interaction, despite she constantly said that no one in her family ever feel proud of her. should've added a little bit of that, i think. but it's so easy to read, i enjoy this series so far!
