So much fun!!! Love the characters, the colors are amazing, the story is fast-paced, and it's so funny that I laughed out loud a few times. I'm definitely going to read the whole series. Like, right now.

I still absolutely love this graphic novel. I didn't quite like this one as much as the first. I did love the Game of Thrones references, i thought that was fun.

I will always love Gert, and her latest attempts at getting home were a bloody delight to read once again. But I must say, I hope the next volume mixes it up a bit because the swath of destruction needs something new, more than just Gert's attempt to be good.

I Hate Fairyland Volume 2 isn't quite as good as the first volume, but it's hard to beat perfection so I forgive it. The story is choppier, but there are still delightful puns, technocolour violence, and dark humour abound. I Hate Fairyland is an indulgence with fantastic art and a completely obnoxious, but delightful story line.

Join Gert (a grown woman in a six-year old girl's body, who has been stuck in a the magical world of Fairyland for over thirty years) on a maddening quest to return home. It's just her, a fly named Larry, a giant blood-soaked battle-axe and and endless amount of cute and cuddly Fairylanders standing in her way.

I laughed so hard while reading this. And grimaced. And laughed some more.

Imagine that, as a six-year-old girl (work with me here, guys), you stumble into a portal leading to a magical realm called Fairyland. It’s a marvelous world of cuteness and candy, and the residents are pleased to share it for a little while as you complete your quest. What quest, you ask? A quest for a key, the only way to unlock the door back to your world. There’s only one problem:

You really suck at quests.

Because you’re so awful at this, you’re still stuck in Fairyland 27 years later. Which creates another giant problem. Besides missing your home and parents and real life, you’ve stopped aging. On the outside, at least. So now you’re a woman in your thirties still trapped in the body of a six-year-old. And you’re an absolutely horrible person. You’re murderously frustrated and surly and man, do you have a mouth on you. But profanity as we know it is an impossibility in Fairyland, so you’re stuck swearing in candy-coated gibberish. Which just makes you madder. You split your time between still looking for the blasted key and drinking gallons of whatever alcohol you can get your hands on in an attempt to drown your rage. But you know what’s not impossible in Fairyland? Violence. And holy gumdrops, and you wreak some havoc. Seriously, you kill everything. And not just kill, mind you. You have to make things as disgustingly gory as possible. The best part for you? You’re safe from death, as you’re a guest of Fairyland. But you’ve made a crazy amount of enemies, and they’re busy trying to find a way to get rid of you. Let ‘em try.

The illustrations were a freakish marriage of cute and grotesque that worked insanely well with the story. Imagine if a Disney movie took a lethal dose of acid. That’s this series. It’s hilarious and gross and totally addictive. If you’re looking for a fantasy comic that will make you feel like your tripping on LSD laced with bleach, look no further.

The reason why I gave this book 2 stars instead of a 3 is because this book for me is kind of forgettable and it just seems to drag on for such a long time. I think that the art in the book was done very well even the gorey parts and I liked that it kind of tried to use adult language but still shied away from it. However I can’t see myself reading the rest of the books unless it’s like the only thing I have to read and even then it would be to see if the main character even got home.

Pre-review rating: 3.38568 stars. And a quarter of a half.
Post-review rating: 3.5 stars. Because reading crap slightly disappointing books always makes me feel most indulgent towards other, um, slightly disappointing books. Also, I'm high on most excellently excellent drugs and stuff.

Sooooo, this volume is not as gloriously glorious as the first one. Dear Little Cordial Gertrude (DLCG™) is still the bloodthirsty, deranged, vindictive, mentally disturbed, homicidal, offensive, maniacal, disrespectful loving, sweet, endearing, affectionate, charming, calm, controlled, pleasant, reserved youngling we all treasure and hold dear in our black, withered hearts, but her latest adventures just aren't as, um, you know, excitingly exciting as her first foray into Fairyland. Which is surprising, actually. I mean, this volume begins with delectably scrumptious stuff like this:





You have to admit that this boded very well for DLCG™'s new adventures. So did the most enticing premise for this volume, I have to say: you see, my Lovely Arthropods, all would have been fine and dandy ever after in Revoltingly Fluffy Cuddly Fairyland (RFCF™), had DLCG™ not sucked so fishing bad at her new queen job that she ended up getting the proverbial boot pincer and stuff. And decided to try and make it back home to the Real, Non-Fluffy Cuddly World (RNFCW™). Which entailed embarking upon a quest to find a dragon that, um, needed to, um, take a leak and stuff. Now if that isn't a Triumphantly Winning Opening (TWO™), I don't know what is. Alas, NOT that good an omen this turned out to be. Because the story turned out to feel kinda sorta like a filler and stuff. And wasn't as stimulatingly stimulating as I expected to be. Life sucks big time and all that crap. But. But. But. But. BUT.

① Batshit crazy and boisterously obstreperous (this is my new favorite word, just so you know) and savagely wild and barbarously slaughterous Gertrude still is.



Also, she's as full of fish as I am someone I vaguely know.



Also, also, she has a thing for acronyms. Just like me someone I vaguely know.



Damn, Dear Little Cordial Gertrude is so like me someone I vaguely know and therefore bloody shrimping perfect I'm beginning to wonder if she isn't one of my someone I vaguely know's many love children shrimps or something. 

② In case you hadn't noticed it up there ⤴, the art is stupendously stupendous and uber cool and shrimping awesome and stuff. And the colors are lavishly subdued, just the way I lurves them.





Okay, to be disgustingly honest, I didn't like issue #8 and its video game-like graphics so much. Which seems perfectly logical since everyone else thought they were most excellent and stuff (view spoiler)[
  is it my fault if I'm surrounded by People of Despicable Graphic Taste (BoDGT™)? Nah, didn't think so either

Nope nope nope, definitely not my thing this is.

③ Best Creatively Beautiful Reversely Sarcastic Insults (CBRSI™) in the history of CBRSI™. They're so bloody shrimping good they even beat my most glorious "bloody shrimpings" and "stinking fishes" and "fishes this" and "fishes that." I kid you not. Because seriously, my Little Barnacles, there's no way to surpass and outclass and outshine stuff like "fluff me" and "go hug yourself" and "holy puff" and "what the fluff" and "fluff yes" basically "fluff" bloody shrimping everything and stuff. Which obviously calls for a celebratory shrimp dance.

 

④ In case you hadn't noticed it up there ⤴, there are exquisitely rollicking rivers of blood and lusciously side-splitting gore and appetizingly frolicsome (if a little overflowing) entrails in this volume. Yum.



⑤ And last, but bloody shrimping not least, mostest savoriest pizzas ever.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's true, this one is not as deliriously hilarious and hilariously delirious as volume 1. But it's still bloody fluffing funny. And deliciously gory. And most outrageously OTT and stuff. Also, Little Gertrude's slightly, um, unstable mental health is deteriorating at the speed of light. Yum. I'm telling you, my Little Barnacles, you won't know what batshit crazy means until you read this graphic novel. Unless you meet these guys first, of course:

Gert is the loveliest, most beautifully, murderously deranged (and derangedly murderous) forty year old woman in a six year old's body that ever was and ever will be. And that, my Little Barnacles, is a scientifically proven fact. Because I said so and stuff.

Also, she's got the coolest hero ever.



Also also, she's a bloody shrimping ninja. Sorry, I meant samurai. Then again maybe not. Opinions seems to differ as to Slightly Homicidal Gert's status these days. But the fact remains, a delightfully delightful executioner of mushroom-type people she is. 



Also also also, Gert's got the motest awesomest means of transportation in the history of means of transportation and stuff. (Yes, that it yet another scientifically proven facts. Ha.)



Also also also also, Good Gert is scary as fish.



Now if that isn't the creepiest, most horrifyingly horrifying thing ever, I don't know what is. Please, Skottie Young, bring Bad Gert back pronto. My murderous children are having bloodcurling nightmares about Good Gert and that cannot be and that will not do. Thank thee kindly and stuff.

Laugh out loud funny I tell you! 
Gert and Larry are the ultimate pair. 

Scottie Young did a great job of bringing this volume full circle with the dragon kid. Which was good because I hear the third volume picks up from where they left off in volume 1. 

The artistry and coloring is still amazing. Can’t wait for the third volume.

Oh, this was fun! Pure, bloody, violent and snark-filled fun.
 
You know how children in books are always excited to be transported to new worlds? They never seem to mind the mind-boggling tasks that they're given, or the not-quite-so-helpful sidekicks that they're forced to endure. After all, who wouldn't want to be transported to Fairyland?
 
Enter Gertrude. A 40-year-old trapped in a child's body whose tiny, day-long mission to find a key and get back home has made her into one vicious little tyrant. Gert is hilarious! She's mean, she's no nonsense, and yet because she's such an adorable little girl it's all just so very messed up. Don't read this comic if you have an issue with cartoon blood, or violence, or pretty much if you're sensitive at all. If you like dark and morbid humor? Welcome to your new favorite story!
 
The art here is stellar. It's Skottie Young after all. It brims with madness, and yet is set against the bright and happy colors of another world. It's beautifully macabre. Follow along with Gert as she hacks and slashes her way home. It's a blast.
 
Ha. Oh, this was just what I wanted to read today. This actually just released today so it's available on Comixology or your LCS. Go get it!
