I‘m sorry, but no one should read this book. It’s poorly written, barely edited, has many plot holes, and is poorly researched. Greek letters are used in consistently (Ki instead of Chi), things are changed, etc. It reads like someone’s first go at a fanfic. It says it was edited, but it really, really does not read that way. I’ve heard that the spelling/grammar/other errors were fixed in later editions, but this is just bad. Writing is very blunt and characters are immediately swayed to do things with no rhyme or reason. The plot could be interesting, but everything is just thrown at you and not explored at all — and there’s waaaaay too many tropes in this. Will probably read the sequel in hopes that it’s better, but do not follow my footsteps. Fooled by TikTok, yet again. Hardcover and dust jacket are pretty, though!

Fun read - great for fans of the Drake Chronicles!

the premise was good, the plot was good. the characters and basic writing felt flat and forced sometimes. there was some editing mistakes that could have helped and maybe as the series progresses it will get better, but it’s not bad but it’s not great either.
