I really, really, really wanted to love this book but while the idea and basic storyline where awesome the actual plot and writing was severely lacking.

The characters all had a lot of potential, but eventually the author just got so caught in displaying a bunch of different POVs so the development of the characters was severely lacking. If she has concentrated on one or at the most two characters I feel like a lot of that could have been avoided.

The plot was so jumpy toward the middle I was convinced I had missed an entire chunk of the book. I had to go through the chapters one by one and reassure myself that yes it did just jump into a place that made no sense!

the beginning was great, everything was appropriate paced, characters were introduced and events described and there were small but insignificant issues. Then all of sudden Ceres is fighting Lucious, she win's he gets pissed and hits her, she hits him back (obviously a big no-no and is thrown in the dungeons) then absolutely everything goes to hell. Her brother visits and slips her a dagger but nothing is ever done. She has these powers which make appearances when she or someone she likes is threated, and that's never really discussed or mentioned. She is saved from execution by Thanos and whisked away to live life as some sort of royal after he has promised the queen not to see her outside of training. we meet some guy who is supposed to train her to be a warrior yet he makes one small appearance and is never brought up again. Somehow Stephania knows Rexus well enough to blab about Creses and Thanos love (which is a whole nother rant) even though she's a royal and he leads the rebellion which makes no sense!!! I even feel bad for not feeling sad about Rexus and Thanos' deaths/probably deaths. Normally I am a sucker for a main character death and cry my little eyes out but I never got that chance to connect with the characters so it was more like Meh, ok whatever, guess I don't have to worry about them anymore. Basically its just one giant mess, almost like she had these events that she wanted to happen and even though the story didn't naturally happen that way she forced it making everything awkward and very confusing.

Finally Creses and Thanos and Rexus love triangle is just so beyond forced that it made me kind of sick to read it. I have no problem with love triangles or strong female characters who find a love interest. I happen to enjoy reading those (yes even though they are definitely played out and usually predictable) but this was just so horribly done. the bare bones of the relationships were there but everything felt rushed and forced. I wanted to spend more time with Creses being Thanos' weapon-keeper. I wanted them to slowly get to know each other and build something real. I wanted to feel her conflict because Rexus was someone she grew up with, she always wanted but was scared to have and here was Thanos' who is someone she never imagined she would feel for but is semi-forced to spend time with and develop a trusting bond with in order to train and compete in the Killings. Yes it is completely cliquey and overdone but it can still be done, and done well. This was not done well. This was I want these characters together and the books needs to end at this point so after two conversations you are madly in love and he has moved you in to be his whatever. It makes no sense!!!!!!!

This book is definitely fixable with a little time and actual completed characters it could even be great (dare I even say amazing!) but the book as it was released is a mess.

It's a shame. The story itself is actually interesting but the language used and the writing... I can't. It's a bit cringe. A good thing is that there aren't that many clichés so yeah, the plot it's the only reason I'll keep reading the next ones in the series.

Ein tolles Buch mit sehr viel Action. Es wurde auf keinen Fall langweilig. Das Ende war auch nicht vorhersehbar und ich muss mir umbedingt den zweiten Teil dert Reihe besorgen. 

hatte schon lange kein Buch mehr, dass mir von Anfang bis Ende so gut gefallen hat und das ich so verschlungen habe.

I was given a recommendation to read this and with a good price FREE I couldn't say no I read about half when I looked at a few reviews I thought people would love it but it had a very clear that there was a love it or hate it decide me I'm in the love it.
I think this series is aimed more towards the younger generations because of it's fast pace but I can honestly say that I love it yes there was at one point I was confused but you have to go with the flow of the book. I would like to hit a few of the nasty characters figuratively speaking of course. But I'm looking forward of continuing the series
