I have no idea why this took me so long to finish when I finished the first book in 1 day. Just wasn’t as good as the first in my opinion! Still a decent book though.

(2.5 stars) okay this definitely wasn’t horrible and i enjoyed being able to continue the burned storyline in this book. just liked burned the whole book wasn’t amazing but the ending really pulled me in! like i said in my burned review i’ve missed reading hopkins’ books and i’ve really loved diving back into her stuff (i may or may not already be reading another one!) overall this series wasn’t my favorite of hers but it was still worth the read!

This books was a heart warming, but also heart breaking sequel to Burned. I found my self loving it. Laughing, crying, sad, happy. But it did leave me wanting more. What happened to Deidre? Do Angel and Pattyn get married and have children? I know that these are meant to be left in answered, but I want MORE.

I can’t even.
In this Ellen Hopkins re-read, I’ve discovered Burned and Smoke are absolutely my favorites of all her works. And I love them all. But god, there’s just something about this pair. 
I read Burned years ago, not terribly long after it’s release, but I was in a several year reading slump then & truly didn’t give it a lot of thought. When Smoke came out a few years later I wanted to read it but just never got around to it until now...
(view spoiler)[And am I ever glad that I did. These books are stunning, raw & heartbreaking. With so many tough & important issues discussed. My love for Pattyn only grew in Smoke and my hope to see her find some happiness again. Her ending was truly exactly what I hoped for her. And honestly, I loved that it was a realistic ending to her story. Not perfection. But newfound happiness going forward, while holding in her heart the happiness that had been. Walking through grief and healing, one step at a time.
I loved getting to know Jackie and see her growth and discovery. So many layers and darkness and to watch her bloom in spite of it all was beautiful.
The end of this book warmed my heart. 10/5 stars. ♡  (hide spoiler)]

Pattyn and Jackie are so strong.

Before reading Smoke, please read Burned. This sequel was everything that we've been waiting for 7 years now.
Such a heart wrenching story.
