To be honest, I enjoyed this one less than the first. The ending was too easy and the story too typical for the Young Adult genre. Nothing is more irritating to a reader than a perfect ending where everyone ends up happily ever after without any real growth of character for any one character, major or minor. However, it wasn't a bad story either. I think 3 stars is well deserved for being as simple a sequel as it is.

Unfortunately, having never bought into the romance in the first book, I went into this one not really hoping for much. However, I actually found the romance to be more realistic in this one. Still, the solution to the story and the pairing off of the other two prominent characters was overly predictable and made me not want to keep the series on my bookshelf anymore. (No worries. I'm gifting it to my sister. She read them when we were younger and still holds them in a fond regard.)

Ultimately, I again feel that I would have liked these books better if I had read them as a younger reader. Now, however, I feel that they just aren't as fun as they could be. The world building is great, but it just falls short of truly great story telling for me.
