With the Trojan War stories, I've come to see how vital the women's roles are and wanted to focus on their stories and sacrifices, because they are the ones who made it possible for the heroes to become who they were.Q: Who are your favorite heroines in Song of Sacrifice?A: Hecuba, Leda, and Clytemnestra. These heroines held so much power in their hands, but had to wield it carefully in a society dominated by equally powerful men.Q: Who do you think is the most misunderstood heroine?A: Clytemnestra. She takes revenge for something that any parent would do. She's so, so, so powerful.Q: What books are in the Homeric Chronicles series?A: Song of Sacrifice and Rise of Princes are complete. I'm writing Rage of Queens and The White Island right now. I'm so excited for readers to discover how it all ends!Q: Which writers have influenced you most?A: The ones whose stories keep me up way past my bedtime. J.R.R. Tolkien, Diana Gabaldon, George R.R. Martin, Steven DeKnight (creator of STARZ Spartacus). And of course, Homer......*This series is intended for a mature audience due to war violence and sexual situations.
