I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. The magic, the characters, the action and romance...it's all fantastic. I loved the whole magical world and I think you will too. Plus who doesn't love a badass female main character? Seriously though...the second book can't come fast enough for me.

This book was so addictive! I love a good morally grey protagonist. These girls are bad ass

All in all I enjoyed Song of the Forever Rains, even if I didn’t LOVE it. The fantasy elements, the world Mellow has created, the magic system, and the threats faced were all very fun. I only wish they felt a bit more developed or explored. I think because of the romance side of this story, a lot of the “world” went unexplained and unexplored, which is a bummer because the promise it holds is really interesting sounding.

Of course I realize that this is ALSO book one in what I believe is a trilogy, so it’s possible that maybe we see more. However I think that the way these books are set up, we’ll see one book for each of the three sisters. Likely all focusing on blending the romance with the good fantasy stories much like this first book did. Not that that is a bad thing, it’s just not MY thing.

If you enjoy the fantasy romance genre and are ok sacrificing some of the fantasy story elements for the love story elements, I think you’ll really enjoy this book. I know series like A Court of Thrones and Roses by Sarah J Maas are HUGELY popular and while I haven’t read them myself, it seems like if you enjoy those books then you’ll likely enjoy the Mousai series from E.J. Mellow, which begins with this book – Song of the Forever Rains.

This was a solid book. It had romance, it had magic, it was lighthearted at times, and serious in others.
It didn’t wow my socks off, but I did enjoy it.
Darius is lovely, and Lakira was sweet.
Nya was awesome and I enjoyed her a lot.
I do think the world building, especially at the start could’ve been much better, especially when describing the girl’s powers and the thief kingdom. I had to string the dots together on my own from what I guessed.
I also like how it doesn’t stray from some touchy subjects.
The audiobook narrators are awesome and I enjoyed it a lot!

This had soooo much potential—I’m a little disappointed. The story started off so strong but just kept fizzling out as the book went on. This book is about Larkyra, one of three sisters, but her sisters had wayyy more personality than she did. I’ll definitely still be reading the rest of the series though because I really enjoyed her sisters. 
This is definitely a very light (dare I say bland) fantasy, so if you love super in-depth, confusing, emotional fantasy books, you might not enjoy this very much. 
All of that aside, I still really enjoyed reading this book and I’m excited for the other two!! It’s definitely worth giving a read

What can I say? I’m in love with a good found family storyline. It’s refreshing to read a book with sisters who are close and eccentric and love each other deeply. The magic and world building in this book is very interesting. I can’t wait to read the next book :)

I enjoyed this book for the most part especially the relationship the MC has with her sisters. For me personally the ending was too exaggerate and over the top. It also took me a while to figure out what the situation with her parents was. And the motivation for the antagonist felt a little weak. I enjoyed the fact that the love interest was not the usual dark haired, broody, stoic type.

This was such an unexpected read to me because I had no idea what the plot was about when I bought it. I knew it was a fantasy book and that was pretty much it. This was 100% a cover buy.

But boy was I hooked from page one. One thing that I especially loved was the fact that our main character Larkyra, has a very loving and supportive family. Who all have secret identities within the Thief Kingdom.

Darius, on the other hand, grew up with an abusive stepfather and is trying to help his kingdom to the best of his ability, so that it doesn't fall into ruin completely.

I don't want to give away too much of the plot because I feel like you shouldn't know much going into it.

The world-building was amazing and the atmosphere of Lachlan is everything (it's raining all the time!!)

Oh, and did I mention that we have a mutati hawk named Kaipo as our sidekick? No? Well, now you know.

It was a little slow in the beginning but as I got into it more, it became so wonderful. The banter between the characters was so entertaining and elaborate. I can’t wait to read the second one!

I think I'm a sucker for dual POVs because I really liked how Mellow did this one. We get to hear from Larkyra Bassette and Lord Darius Mekenna. Lark is the youngest of the Mousai, a group of three women with extremely powerful magic. The Mousai also happen to be her elder sisters, which I have to say that I adore the sisterly love between the Bassette girls. The prologue where we first meet them as little girls was one of my favorites because we can see just how close they have been from the beginning. Darius is supposed to be the heir to Lachlan, but his stepfather has taken over after his mother's death and the kingdom has gone to hell ever since. How are these two going to come together? In some pretty epic ways.

This is definitely a different vibe from the Dreamland books, the books that I initially read from Mellow, and I loved it that much more for it. There was scene in The Thief Kingdom where Darius was experiencing all its debauchery for the first time - the very first time he also met the Mousai - and I think that was one of my all time favorite scenes. I also adored how this ended, and I can't wait for the sequel to come out soon. I listened to the audiobook and it made it fun. I do want to do a reread and take some notes because there were some things that I think I need to refresh my mind on before the sequel comes out.
