Heartbreak for Hire

"Brinkley Saunders has a secret. To everyone in the academic world she left behind, she lost it all when she dropped out of grad school. Once a rising star following in her mother's footsteps, she's now an administrative assistant at an insurance agency-or so they think. In reality, Brinkley works at Heartbreak for Hire, a secret service that specializes in revenge for jilted lovers, frenemies, and long-suffering coworkers with a little cash to spare and a man who needs to be taken down a notch. It might not be as prestigious as academia, but it helps Brinkley save for her dream of opening an art gallery and lets her exorcise a few demons, all while helping to empower women. But when her boss announces she's hiring male heartbreakers for the first time, Brinkley's no longer so sure she's doing the right thing-especially when her new coworker turns out to be a target she was paid to take down. Though Mark spends his days struggling up the academic ladder, he seems to be the opposite of a backstabbing adjunct: a nerd at heart in criminally sexy sweater vests who's attentive both in and out of the bedroom. But as Brinkley finds it increasingly more difficult to focus on anything but Mark, she soon realizes that like herself, people aren't always who they appear to be"--

A Novel

This book drew me in from the start, I knocked this book out in just a few sittings and I absolutely loved it. The characters were funny and the plot was well developed. I did think that there were a few things that were a little too over done, like when she met Marks mom and sister then ran out, I think that this type of scene is over done in the rom-com community. I did love the plot twist at the end of the book, it gave the story a good change in direction. Overall, this is a well written book and I would recommend it to YA readers.

Another review that I am writing comically late. I LOVED THIS BOOK!! It was really really really good. Brinkley was a vibe. I loved her character: owning a hateful cat, the aspiring artist thing, being a #girlboss out for revenge against awful guys, her confidence to do what's best for her despite pushback from everyone else (especially her mom). Love, love, loved her. OH MY GOSH AND MARK!!! Yessssssss love that man!!! He’s Brinkley's rock through it all while simultaneously being the cutest, softest guy ever. Y'aaaaaall and the tension between these two... SCREAMINGGGGG!! It's so good I don't even know what to say. The characters and plot reminded me a lot of Beach Read by Emily Henry (obvi Becah read is my fav tho... not to choose favs tho): Brinkley dealing with parental issues, Mark working in academia and being very cute studious, the job that ties them together in the beginning and keeps them together throughout the book, Mark's troubling past that seems to always hold him back in his potential... and love life, and literally just their character traits in general, very similar to January and Gus (IN A GOOD WAY!!). Really, really, really loved this book!! I thought that the prompt was gonna be so weird in the beginning, with H4H being an underground business that ruined guys’ egos, pride, and more… but it was really interesting!!! I really loved reading abt the job and the way Margo, the boss, turned into a woman that was corrupting the girls instead of empowering them was something I liked reading about because I got to read a little bit about feminist issues while also reading abt a guy going dow… I think I’ll just stop there. Really really really really loved this book <3 <3

3.5 stars !!! while i definitely was entertained and appreciate how unique and creative this plot is, the writing was a little too shallow. this had a lot of potential and i feel like it only met about 65% of it. HOWEVER. i am giving it extra points for no miscommunication trope, and the fact that the adults actually act like adults.

also, i wish there would’ve been a porn hub logo in the corner on the cover so i knew NOT to read this on an airplane but HEY, what are ya gonna do !?

all in all a cute story that could’ve been phenomenal with more development- 309 pages just wasn’t enough tbh

A smart, sexy, and witty romantic comedy—perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne—about a twentysomething who lives out every woman’s fantasy: getting paid to give men who do us wrong a taste of their own medicine. But when a previous target unexpectedly shows up at her office, she’s forced to rethink her life as a professional heartbreaker. Brinkley Saunders has a secret. To everyone in the academic world she left behind, she lost it all when she dropped out of grad school. Once a rising star following in her mother’s footsteps, she’s now an administrative assistant at an insurance agency—or so they think. But when her boss announces she’s hiring male heartbreakers for the first time, Brinkley’s no longer so sure she’s doing the right thing—especially when her new coworker turns out to be a target she was paid to take down. Though Mark spends his days struggling up the academic ladder, he seems to be the opposite of a backstabbing adjunct: a nerd at heart in criminally sexy sweater vests who’s attentive both in and out of the bedroom. But as Brinkley finds it increasingly more difficult to focus on anything but Mark, she soon realizes that like herself, people aren’t always who they appear to be. With Sonia Hartl’s “bitingly funny” (Publishers Weekly) prose, Heartbreak for Hire is a clever romcom you and your girlfriends won’t be able to stop talking about.

A brief synopsis: Brinkley is an aspiring artist who works a not-so-common job. She’s a heartbreaker at Heartbreak for Hire. Her job is to seek revenge on the men who wronged the women that pay her. When Brinkley gets a little too close to one of her targets she begins to question not only her job but also what she’s doing with her life

My review: This book was super short and super cute. An easy read that was a nice distraction from more serious ones. I think it would make a really good vacation read. I’m not a big romance reader but this was a pleasant surprise

I went into this book totally blindsided. I- I don’t really know what to say. I love Brinkley with all my heart ❤️ perfect for slower readers who enjoy spice and heartfelt romance ❤️

I went into this book completely blind, and wow did I fall in love with the characters, and the premise of the novel. The main character, Brinkley, works for a secret undercover agency called Heartbreak for Hire, aka H4H, where her and three other women get paid to humiliate men that have hurt other women in one form or another. It's not that she necessarily respects this career line; however, her terrible break up left her romance-less, friendless, and career-less, so when Margo her current boss scoped her out for H4H, naturally it seemed like the right decision.

When Brinkley is hired to bring down a college professor, Mark, who allegedly stole the work of his female coworker to get ahead in his career, she finds herself conflicted with her own romantic interest in him. Things take a turn when Mark is hired on to H4H and he is partnered to work with Brinkley.

Mark and Brinkley have very much of a strong push and pull relationship until the very end of the book when they discover what they truly mean to each other and how they fit in each others' lives.

This book is not just about romance; however, It is about Brinkley and Mark both digging deep inside and learning that it is never too late to realize your ambitions and aspirations in life even in your mid thirties. It is about finding out what really matters to you and seeing what you are willing to sacrifice and give up for it. It is about learning to repair familial relationships and standing up on your own when that is not possible. It is about that bonds of friendship that we all rely so heavily on. And of course it will definitely provide the reader with plenty of steam and romance ;)

I really enjoyed this book and was impressed with how quickly I formed a connection with the characters. Would highly recommend!

I've been in such a reading slump lately, so I decided to randomly choose an Advanced Reader copy in my much-too-large stack. I am so happy I did, because I found another 5 star read!

This book is an enemies-to-lovers trope with laughs, intrigue, and a little bit of "spice." I absolutely loved everything about this book. The relationship between Brinkley and Mark made me so happy I am married, or else my jealousy would be off the charts. From meeting when she was a heartbreaker, to their banter when seeing each other again had me turning the pages more and more.

Add to that the side story of what secrets Brinkley's mother was keeping, the relationships Brinkley had with ex-friends from her college days, the dynamics of her heartbreaking workplace changing (hello women avenging the wrongs men foist upon us!), and Brinkley trying to find her path to her future, and this book became one of my favorites.

Heartbreak For Hire is out July 27, 2021! You can preorder your copy now. Meanwhile, I will be looking up Sonia Hartl's backlist of books to read!

I received a free digital copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I think Brinkleys sense of humor and wit is priceless and I was laughing out loud many times and I probablu looked crazy since I was reading in public. But this book does have some spice to it 1/5❤️‍🔥 but overall loved this book and loved the character backstories. I gave it four stars because it wasnt really a book that had me thinking about it long after I finished or had me praying to god there was more. Overall great fun quick read.

Brinkley works for Heartbreak for Hire, a company that women can hire to enact revenge against men who have wronged them. (Very dramatic)

Unfortunately for Brinkley, her boss decides to start hiring men to work at HfH and one of her former targets (that didn’t go exactly as planned) shows up at the office.

I loved this book.... It was definitely a more silly read read, but it was seriously so funny. I found myself laughing throughout the story and finished it in one afternoon. The only downfall was that I thought the pacing was a little wonky. The start of the book felt a little slow through to the middle with the build up and then the end of the book felt like it wrapped up too quickly and didn’t feel quite complete to me.
