Broken Vow Brutal Birthright: Book 5
Reviews

“I want to choose you over anything else." • in general, I’m not a fan of the southern gentleman trope, but Broken Vow has proven to be the exception. I always assumed Riona’s would be my least favorite book in the series, but I was wrong about that, too. I loved this whole story…the push and pull of two stubborn people, their commitment to family, and their journeys to accepting themselves and what they want in life. I also loved being taken to a different setting for the majority of book. this is one I could see myself revisiting in the future! • read if you like: ♡ mafia romance ♡ dual pov ♡ hitman hired to kill main character ♡ bodyguard ♡ career-driven women ♡ teach her how to cook ♡ boy falls first ♡ southern boy/city girl ♡ veterans ♡ ranch life ♡ horseback riding ♡ small town dances ♡ tight-knit families ♡ top-tier on-page spice 🥵 ♡ outdoor adventures 😏 ♡ wedding scenes trigger warnings: ☞ stalking ☞ murder / attempted murder ☞ grooming ☞ sexual harassment ☞ domestic abuse •

LOS AMO

“You know that I think the world of you, Riona.” But still . . . I feel like she needs me. Or maybe it’s me who needs her. “I’d go anywhere for you, Riona. I’d do anything. I know I probably shouldn’t tell you that. You don’t like anything if it’s too easy. But it’s true—you’ve got me wrapped around your little finger.” This one got me the way Stolen Heir got me and I'm so so happy!! I loved Raylan, I loved that he cares deeply, I love how he was the one to fall first and opening Riona's eyes for love when she always said she didn't want to fall in love!! I loved how Raylan is kind but also so hot and flirty and funny and charming, god I love them!! This one can be described as a reversed grumpy sunshine to be honest!! Riona thought, that woman is a role model, she is so strong and independent and amazing and deep down she just wants to be loved the way she truly loves the people who matter the most to her, even when she doesn't show it, she does love deeply and she cares so damn much!! She never thought she was worthy of love because of how she always was so brutal and cold but her family loves her so much and Raylan fell over heels in love with her showing that she was loved and I think that's soooo beautiful and heartwarming!! Their banter was so fun since the day they met in Dante's book! This book made me respect and love Riona when I wasn't her biggest fan in the other books but finally reading her pov and her story and her insecurities and seeing how she truly is, made me love her and love this book so much!! Seeing them bond even more on Raylan's family ranch was fun, intense, sexy and amazing!! Loved seeing Raylan's family too! And him teaching her how to ride a horse and the way Raylan talked about horses god so cuteee ugh!! I really loved this book and I had so much fun with it!! They are probably my favorite couple with Miko and Nessa, but I think Raylan wins my favorite man of the series, sorry Miko, still love you with all my heart I promise but Raylan is my type of guy and he stole my heart since page one!! Go read Broken Vows, I promise they're so worth it!! But I was right about one person at least: the man sitting next to me. Raylan flew to Chicago to make sure I was safe. He saved me, when nobody else was there to do it. He hasn’t left my side since “I want to choose you, Raylan. I want to choose you over anything else.” “I want the same thing,” I tell her. “I was all set to tell you that I was gonna stay here, in Chicago. And darlin’, I’m still willing to do it. We can pick right now—I want you to be happy, Riona. If that means staying, then I’ll stay.”

feeling called out by riona’s character why was she literally me

Am I.... into cowboys????? Tbh this is a 4.5 primarily because the math on Henry's age makes no sense in this book and also because once again these men do not understand the importance of condoms!!!! How is she not pregnant by the end of the book like cmon Sophie let these men use a condom

RTC ___________________________________________ I had to sit and really stew on this one because it really tested my patience. Riona is being targeted by someone it could be because of her family business or a past case, nobody knows. Dante calls in a favor with his military friend whom Riona met at the end of Bloody Heart. He comes into town to be her bodyguard. For some reason Riona did not like him, I still don’t really understand why tbh. Raylan is a country boy, he has that southern charm, that control from being in the military and truly there isn’t anything not to love about him. I was so excited for this book because I knew he would wear her down and it would be a fun ride…. It wasn’t that fun. Riona really got on my nerves. She was trying way too hard at being “strong” and wanting to control everything and everyone. Like sis just let your hair down and relax. I felt as though Rayla was working too hard to get her to relax and just admit that she enjoyed his company. I enjoyed this story very much but it took me a while bc of the resistance from Riona. I did really love the change of scenery in this one. They left the city and went to Tennessee for her safety and idk it’s something about farm & country life that I like. The spice in here wasn’t frequent but it was very hot, there was some light bdsm in here and whewww. Overall I liked it so I’m giving it a 4.

I think this might be my favorite of the series (aside from Brutal Prince, obv). I don't think I've ever felt as seen as I did while reading Riona's POV after only seeing her behavior in passing in the prior books. Riona has a reputation for being cold, calculating, and ambitious. We only see her begin to warm up when she develops an unusual friendship with Dante in book 2, but Riona actually has a very strong depth of emotion and inner life--she just doesn't like to show it and would rather wear protective "cold bitch" emotional armor. #Relatable. Raylan served in the military with Dante and now works as a private mercenary. He's called in to help when Riona is attacked by an unknown assailant to act as her 24/7 bodyguard/babysitter, which she's thrilled about. The two constantly snipe at each other, and the building of the tension is masterfully done. Spice was excellent, plot was excellent, this is a must-read.

I’ve really loved this whole series so far, but this one just wasn’t a hit for me. It’s disappointing because I thought I was really going to like Riona, and I did for a while! But the ending really was not it

So… where can I find a cowboy and a barn? This was hot. Slow burn and HOT. I related a lot with Riona, I get her. And Raylan, that charm, easy going vibe, lightness to him; completely amazing. You can really see how well they fit together. Once again, an amazing book in this series

Another one of Sophie's relationships that was better developed. I enjoyed the side plots, but it doesn't connect as well as her other books — which might be the point. The sex scene in the stables... whew, take a seat for this one ladies.

Awww. This was just awww. I loved the scenery change. (As an equestrian, the horse content was a little off for me, but the ranch life? Damn, count me in) Raylan is the cutest. Riona with all her self set boundaries and challenges feels very relatable to me. Enjoyed it a lot!

⭐️5 SOPHIE LARK'S WRITING IS SO ADDICTIVE. IDK what is in it, but she just never misses. Every time I say I have a favorite in the series, I read the next one and then that one becomes my favorite. But truly Raylan and Riona might just be my all-time favorite couple from this series. The spice was top-tier. The maturity between them, and constant communication was *CHEF'S KISS*. Life has been busy so it's taken me a while to finish this one, but I'm honestly glad I got to spend a great amount of time with this couple. SUCH A GOOD READ (and I need more of them)

This is definitely my favorite. Daddy Rayland is such a dom but at the same time is super sweet.

2 stars solely for the barn scene and the bodyguard trope, because this book was pretty underwhelming. i could not feel any chemistry between raylan and riona at all, the writing style felt iffy the entire time, filled with inner monologues of endless exposition and choppy sentences. it truly didn't feel like the previous four books of this series, to the point where i kept wondering if this was actually ghost-written. i'm sad to see this series come to a close on such a disappointing note, hopefully the last book will redeem the series a bit.
