Unfortunately, this was a very low 3 star read for me. For every good thing, there was something bad. Towards the end I had to force myself to finish it. The concept is cool, but gets lost in translation. The atmosphere of the darkness could be really interesting if it was written better, but instead it's just a bit confusing. There were elements of the story that just came out of nowhere and didn't make sense. The same thing goes for the characters actions, interactions, and relationship developments. The plot twists, when the plot actually made sense, were very predictable yet not enjoyable. Additionally, although I loved Annora's (I think that's her name, honestly she's pretty forgettable) relationship with Logan, and even her relationship with Mason there wasn't enough of it. The romance really took a backseat to the underwhelming and convoluted plot. Also, I could barely remember Camden and Xavier, and there relationship with her (to me there really wasn't one). Just because there is a "fated mate" or whatever mate connection doesn't mean that you don't have to develop the romance. I felt like if this book focused less of the overarching plots, and focused on a relationship between just Annora, Mason, and Logan (with a bit of the cute ferrets named Edgar) this would have been a fantastic book. I also hated the cliffhanger ending because I really don't feel like continuing the series, but need to know what happens to a certain character. So disappointing...
