The first book was awesome but this one is even better! After Cate chooses to join the sisterhood we finally get to see what it's like on the inside. When Cate requests that Tess and Maura, her sisters, join her in New London the plot moves along. With all three sisters under one roof the dynamic is like what it used to be. Cate and Tess are still close and Maura as usual feels left out.  

To everyone else it is just a convent with nuns but actually they're all undercover witches. They teach the younger witches how to use and control their magic. Sisters in charge have a disagreement on how to pursue their mission. With this book we get to see more of the lives of the witches, as well as witness horrible things done by the brotherhood because of their faith. 

Something about this book shows that there really isn't a good and bad side. The brotherhood in my opinion is evil but not all want to do horrifying things they just want to keep their families safe. The witches are good but a very few of them want to take over the brotherhood and rule New London. So it's more like there's good in bad and bad in good.
 
Now there's the prophecy which seems to be pointing to Cate and her two sisters. The bothers are arresting more women and strengthening the laws while people start to protest. The sisters are disagreeing on how to lead the rebellion. There is also a lot of tension with the Cahill sisters, Cate and Tess on one side and Maura on the other. 

We get to see that Tess is more clever than we thought. Cate is stepping up and not taking any bullshit from others. Maura well she is just Maura annoying the hell out of me. She is a character I love to hate. She is so blindsided by her hate that she believes she is doing the right thing.

Finn kept Cate sane. He supported all of her decisions but I loved that he wasn't afraid to voice his opinions. He helps Cate realize that she isn't alone. Finn will do whatever he can to keep her safe. What Maura did to Finn made me want strangle her. The world building and history is phenomenal. The relationships between the women in the book are so real and wonderful. Also heartbreaking romances...

This trilogy deserves more hype! You won't regret reading this!!
