"Long after her last message, I stare at my phone, scrolling through our conversation"

nanafark

I stare at Hazel, and she stares back at me. In our gazes, we’re having a full conversation.

I draw her closer. Something has shifted in my chest, locked into place. This is right. This is the way it’s supposed to be. I thought about her for all those years, and we found our way back to each other.

I love her. The words are right under my vocal cords, but I hold them back, because this is all so new. They beat through my blood, they weave through my heart, and I’m sure they’re written all over my face.

He’s right, I realize. All I do is think about the past, and it’s holding me back.

"This woman could talk a cop into handing over his gun. All she’d have to do is smile and flick her ponytail, and he’d be like, you want the bullets, too? There’s a weird, funny pressure in my chest, and for the first time in so long, I feel the urge to smile."

"She sighs, her head falling back. “It’s not your body. Your coochie knew Zach was a colossal loser.”

“Your coochie wants action!” she shouts at the forest, and I sputter with laughter, trying to cover her mouth. “Give your coochie what she wants!” "

If you're looking for a book with nothing but hockey smut, then this is the one for you. Other than that, there's not much substance to it.

He's the hot, grumpy goalie I had a crush on in high school... and now I'm his live-in assistant.

After my ex crushed my dreams in the music industry, I’m done with getting my heart broken. Working as an assistant for an NHL player was supposed to be a breeze, but nothing about Jamie Streicher is easy. He’s intimidatingly hot, grumpy, and can't stand me. The guy has a massive ego. Keeping things professional will be no problem, even when he demands I move in with him.

Beneath his surliness, though, Jamie’s surprisingly sweet and protective.

When he finds out my ex was terrible in bed, his competitive nature flares, and he encourages and spoils me in every way. The creative spark I used to feel about music? It’s back, and I’m writing songs again. Between wearing his jersey at games, fun, rowdy parties with the team, and being brave on stage again, I’m falling for him.

He could break my heart, but maybe I’m willing to take that chance.

Behind the Net is a grumpy-sunshine pro hockey romance with lots of spice and an HEA. It’s the first book in the Vancouver Storm series, and can be read as a standalone.

Tropes:

grumpy sunshine
slow burn
boy obsessed
pro hockey
forced proximity (boss vs assistant + roommates)
spice coaching

The Vancouver Storm Series, Book #1

This isn’t reinventing the wheel and could absolutely do with some tweaking but it hits all the right notes.

So boring. The plot had no real depth and was very superficial. Smut Scenes felt like they were written by a man. Very disappointing

super sweet romance, spicy at times. loved loved the couple

Ummmm, this was bad. Like so so bad 😭 A nice palate cleanser but terrible in terms of plot and characters. Read it (ig🤷‍♀️) if you're into hockey romance but know that there's better out there lmaoo.

If you want a book with hockey, ‘i’ll teach you’, a splash of fake dating, and a protective and supportive MMC: this is a book you should pick up. I really appreciated that there wasn’t too much of actual hockey in this book because as an Australian, I know absolutely nothing about ice hockey.

The smut is 😗👌🏼 and the fluff is adorable so if you like a fluffy romance with a healthy dose of smut, this is the book for you! Overall a really fast and enjoyable read so I’d 100% recommend.

Hockey (Romance) Season just began and this was the perfect steamy story to get me in the mood!

Every. Single. Page.

I absolutely loved the way these characters grew individually and with each others help.

The way Jaime encouraged Pippa to stand up for herself, helped her see how actually talented she is in her music. Ahhh it was such a delight.

Second chance romance gets me every time- and the way Jaimie treats Pippa omg. Literally like a queen. He is absolutely obsessed with her and yet, still grumpy bossy and masculine in how he treats her.

Blurb:

Jaime just recently moved back home to Vancouver to help look after his mom, who’s always struggled with anxiety and depression. He only has time to focus on his mom, and hockey. When a rescue dog ends up in his life, he decided to hire an assistant to help out while he’s working. Pippa is beyond excited for this opportunity, she’s recently been dumped and living on her sisters couch.

Turns out, Jaime and Pippa went to high school together and neither one expects the other to remember them. But little do they each know… they both remember each other vividly.

I’m absolutely, positively obsessed with this book. I can’t get enough I just finished and already wish I could read it for the first time again. I looooove boy obsessed. I love their background and I loved how they came together and how beautiful everything was. Major hockey fan and I’m kind of obsessed with goalies so I was swooning, kicking my feet, and squealing at some parts with Jamie. I want to kiss Jamie and Peppa on the forehead I love them so much. New favorite book. I’m actually obsessed with Peppa. She was a PERFECT fmc I looooooved reading about her so much and I felt that she was just a beautiful character. Ugh just everything was so good

Was I irritated Jamie kept treating his mom for being an invalid because she had panic attacks? Yes.

Was I even more irritated that she neglected her health? A bigger yes.

But Pippa and Jamie were cute and I loved how they helped each other. Character development was goooooood.

This book was amazing I loved the banter between the characters and I absolutely loved how it was dual pov and when the main female character was like oh he hate me and then we would get to his pov and he would be like I couldn’t breath when she walked in the room. It was jut adorable and you should definitely give it a read!!

You just want to shove them both just for them to see they like each other😂

Really cute story, i was kicking my feet at all times

A really fun book, from start to finish.

Really cute story, i was kicking my feet at all times

it was lovey, and sexy! it has a good plot and it’s talking about important life issues and dealing with them in a very easy to read way and i enjoyed it!

i liked the writing and the growth of the MCs and apart from finding unrealistic how someone can be SO grumpy, i found it entertaining. the spice was super good!

most of all i can’t wait for the next book about Rory and Hazel though! it seems super promising.

Sunshine ☀ x grumpy romance which was really cute also the hockey 🏒 player trope. It's a slow burn which is definitely worth it in the end.

This was a pretty classic hockey romance for me - easy, cute and steamy. It was definitely worth reading as an easy book that you can fly through.

My only real complaint is that it wasn't anywhere near slow-burn enough for me. I feel like Pippa and Jamie acted on their attraction to each other way too soon and it felt like there wasn't really any build-up that got me excited for them to break that first boundary.

I thought that the characters were really nicely written and I liked all the main ones which is always good lol. I do think that Pippa and Jamie complimented each other really well -- I really loved the way that he so badly wanted to build up her confidence and didn't let anything get in the way of her trying to live her dream. He was so supportive of her and her music and it was really sweet to see. There was also a fake dating scene which had incredible chemistry. Hayden was also, surprisingly, my favourite characters. He was just so wholesome and gave the biggest golden retriever energy ever and he was so fun with Pippa.

All in all, a basic hockey romance that was a pretty decent read.

I was initiallt very drawn to this book and it sucked me in quick. I loved jamie & pippa’s little dance before they got together, but afterwards there was a lot of smut that just wasn’t always necessary? still a sweet story and ending but didn’t knock me out of the water.

Tara Bounkeovisane

Perfectly paced. Really refreshing for the main couple to get together and not have a rough patch immediately after that results in them spending pages apart. Loved Pippa and Jamie’s dynamic so much!!!!!
