As much a thriller as a mystery, August Jones presents the eponymous main character: an ex-soldier, ex-cop. He fought the law (crooked cops & politicians) and he won (a wrongful termination suit that left him wealthy with the proceeds of a wrongful termination suit.

Snow is what we wish cops were. He's brave and skilled and honest. Only now he's an ex-cop. He still tries to be brave and skilled and honest, mostly. 

I listened to this book in one day (at mostly 1.75% speed). It was fine. 

There's a lot of violence, especially toward the end of the book. It's sort of MCU violence though, where people are shot and bad things happen and no one has to answer for it. Still, lots of violence.

I know people want heroes. I do! I wish most "heroes" like Snow didn't rely so much on killing people. And I wish more IRL cops and soldiers were honest and brave like him.

I enjoyed the glimpses of the Mexican/African American cultures briefly seen in the book. I still don't enjoy books that depict rich people in trouble though. I've had enough of rich people stories. Blech.
