Disruptions

Millhauser presents some excellent short stories in this collection. His style is precise and thorough, with stories often leaning on a documentary-esque, non-fiction retelling, in what proves to be a very enjoyable way to approach fictitious short stories. Unfortunately, it felt as though I read each story roughly thrice. I realise that this is somewhat intentional, given the basic theme surrounding the stories is that of "disruption", the idea that we are given a regular, familiar world, which is in some way disrupted into something new, but I fear the lack of differentiated disruptions very much limited my enjoyment of the collection as a whole. Individually, some of these stories can contend with the best I've ever read, but presented as one read like this I was disappointed.
