I love this book!!! Finally I find again a book that make me to not let it down until I finished it. Also, I love the character and how real they are, like relatable. And for the people who complained about them...I don't understand, it's very close to reality and how sometimes a person respond in certain situations. 

What I hate a little bit was how Trin throw herself so fast on Zayn from the first time she saw him, but that's my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

For a JLA book, this awfully dragged too so much. Especially the romance. The characters were not loveable enough and Zayne should make up his mind if he loves Trinity of Layla. Because, boy, WE HAVEN'T GOT ALL TIME.

Overall enjoyed the premise and the story but in the end the characters are too young for me so I will skip the rest of the series.

Okay so technically 3 ½ stars but I'll settle at 4 because despite the whole middle portion of this book I really REALLY have love for it. 
I'm so frustrated with this book. I thought Storm & Fury would be this beautiful story about a nephilim and how she doesn't take crap from no man. But every time a male character shows up, it's just like BOOM. And they take over her life and tell her what to do. I'm also like... Where's the source of fear? Every time she's scared there either ends up nothing to be scared of or she finds a way to let her powers take care of it. I love the idea of this book. But I feel like this book severely lacked something. There was no "I can't put this book down for another minute" moment. And that's what I'm most upset about, fantasy usually keeps me reading, it has a lot more cliff hangers in it's chapters. This story lacks that. 
I love the FMC but I can't find it in me to pick up the second unless it's solely about the MMC. ((I really want Zayne and Trinity to become a thing...))
OKAY fine here are things I really love about this book.
Peanut, single-handedly the best side character ever, if I was a ghost I too would like to spy on Zayne and everyone else. 
I really enjoy the element of surprise this story holds & no I won't explain further...
The love triangle thing is set up pretty well. I wouldn't really call it a triangle but it works and it's worth reading if you're in it just for the romance. (But it's YA so don't expect spice)
Thierry and Matthew are the dads I've always wanted despite them keeping Trinity locked in the house 90% of the time. ((Misha, meh, not as fleshed out as I would've liked for being Trinity's protector.)) 
The setting and the very "Supernatural" nod along with demons, angels & wardens themselves is amazing!
Zayne is hot and I love him. 
I really enjoy the last couple chapters, the most threatening of all with the reveals. I wish I could say more about the ending because man it was AMAZING. But I'm just. Hoping the second one brings more struggles that Trinity can overcome in a way that's not immediately solved.

This is quite the enjoyable and entertaining story, even though  it is similar to the author's other works.

Trinity is a special snowflake. Quite a few times, she'd get on my nerves with the decisions she'd take. Even though she'd say she was thinking of others, her motives would kind of be selfish, in my opinion. She does have badass aspects that I loved. Not only that, she has an eye illness that affects her vision to the point where she can go blind. This illness is the same that JLA has. It was nice to learn something new and read the author's experience through Trinity. Zayne was ever the gentleman. I honestly liked him a lot and he gave a lot to the story. 

There was a lot of action involved in this one, which is something I like out of a paranormal story. Even though I didn't read the Dark Elements series, I was never lost reading this one, which I thought was great. I already knew a little of Layle and Roth, so seeing them and a few other characters in this new series was fantastic for me, especially Roth! 

I enjoyed this story a lot. The only thing is that JLA's writing, even though it's amazing, it's kind of repetitive. This seemed so similar to her Covenant series, in a lot of ways. Still, it's quite entertaining and will keep you wanting more :)

In terms of it being a spin off for The Dark Elements i would say if you don't want to read The Dark Elements, you can read it without having read The Dark Elements. However, if you are wanting to read The Dark Elements series, 100% read that first otherwise The Harbringer books will definitely spoil The Dark Elements series. 

As someone that loved the Dark Elements series am so here for more Zayne! I definitely preferred reading from Layla's perspective in Dark Elements, cause i'm 100% team Roth! but I loved this all the same! I loved that we got to see Roth and Layla in this book. 

One other aspect that i really enjoy was reading about how Trinity is living with Retinitis pigemntosa, something that Jennifer L Armentrout is also living with. It was amazing to see how RP did not define Trinity and she can and will kick ass!

i am so happy to get a book about Zayne. I will say I wasn’t a fan of him and Layla in the White Hot Kiss books but am 1000% here for his relationship with Trin. I can’t wait to see what blooms between these two, Trueblood and Protector.

4.25 and 4.5 didn’t feel right, so here we are at 4.35.

I thoroughly enjoyed it! Storm and Fury’s the first YA fantasy novel I picked up and kept at lately, and I’m just so happy to be back in the world of angels and demons and gargoyles.

The book read pretty fast, though it is pretty lengthy. The hardcover stands at 504 pages, but I only found a few of the chapters average. Overall, the book read great! I don’t know if it’s my specific copy or if this is throughout the latest round of published copies, but I found quite a bit of grammatical errors in mine, which contributed to the lower rating, though really not by much.

Some parts of the dialogue fell flat to me, which I don’t remember if I felt the same way with the Dark Elements series because I ended up giving two out of the three books 5 stars.

Storm and Fury is still really great! Immersive and has quite a bit of romance sparked throughout, even though it was somewhat slow burn. There’s a lot of build up and tons of banter which DUHHHH, cue the grinning.

ALSOOOO?! This is YA. 14+ is the age I saw on Google, BUT there was a surprising bit of very low-level spice. Not even really worth a spice rating, but for a YA book, I was kind of shook to see it in here. Suggestive, but not detailed. Not outright written and more fade-to-black, but still surprised to have read that part, small as it was.

I LOVEEEEE Trinity and Zayne. I don’t know yet if I love them more than Layla and Roth, but definitely rooting for them.

After I finished the dark elements series, I kinda hated Zayne, I hated how he behaved with Layla and overall, I didn’t particularly liked his personality. When I decided to read this book, I was sure it would take me a lot to understand his character. It did not. I loved him in this book, maybe because I could see him without Layla (for a while) and interacting with someone I like (Trin).

Let’s talk about Trinity: she is an amazing character even though I spent the majority of the time wishing to be able to strangle her. Why did she always have to go outside, do everything against the rules? At first, I liked this part, because I tried to understand her situation, but It became too much and I ended up being a bit annoyed. 

Zayne was literally my favorite for the first half of this book. But then Layla and Roth happened. He changed and became cold and boring. In the end, I didn’t even mind him anymore, in a negative way. I couldn’t keep up with all his thoughts and distractions and worrys, too much and not interesting. Layla and Roth are still my favorite couple from the series and, unfortunately, every time they came into the picture, I forgot about everything else (I know that it was impossible for them to be in this book). 

THE EDING was a big big big big no for me. Seriously, parabatai things again? I hated that (if you’ve read it you have to know what I’m talking about). I kinda liked this book, because even if there were a lot of problems, I ended up enjoying every bit of it. I just hope the sequels are not on the same level though. 

You should read this book if you like:

→ Heroines struggling with illnesses and identity crisis.
→ Heroes who literally can’t get over their love for someone else and keep getting their emotions between them and people.
→ Layla and Roth.

Final vote: 4/5

JLA knows how to capture a reader and keep them flipping the pages. I had planned to read a small part of the book the day I picked it up, but I just could not put it down. Storm and Fury is a fast-paced read with an engaging plot. At no point did I feel like this book had slipped into a boring or enjoyable moment. I wasn't sure how it was going to measure up against the Dark Elements series, but I can confidently say that this book is its own.

The introduction of Trinity and the power she holds has expanded the supernatural world seen in the Dark Elements books. It makes sense that this book, as a spin off, would have its own focus, but I love that the possibilities seem to have only widened and JLA chose to not work only within the confines of what she had set up in the previous books. This shows her growth as a writer and her ability to continually shape and reshape what she is creating.

Going into this series I really wasn’t the biggest Zayne fan. I actually had a moment of pause right before starting because I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it through a whole book about him. From the beginning, I was wholly a part of the Layla and Roth ship and had no desire to see her end up with Zayne so I love that she didn't, because I think Trinity is 100% the girl for Zayne. I love her snark and the way that her and Zayne banter back and forth constantly. Trinity is a powerful young woman, but she also has this soft side. She challenges Zayne and doesn't let him get away with anything. It's clear, Zayen is still dealing with the events of what took place in the Dark Elements books, and Trinity’s personality is encouraging him to confront what happened. I’m looking forward to his growth and hers throughout these books. 

I also appreciated that JLA added a little of herself into this book. I think every author who writes incorporates bits and pieces of themselves into their books, but JLA’s willingness to give her main character the same degenerative eye condition that she has is very much applauded. I love that even with this condition, Trinity is still a badass woman and JLA is showing us that despite the conditions people might have, they can be and often still are badasses. I love this representation and what it means, especially for folks who will look at Trinity and see themselves in her. 

This is a wonderful book for anyone who is new to YA Fantasy or wants a classic YA Fantasy novel. With Storm and Fury, JLA has written what I believe will be another well-done fantasy series. I can’t wait to pick up the next book!

I might have been a child/adolescent in the '90s. I am reminded of First Mate Riker and Deanna Troi running around with gargoyles.



Storm and Fury is a very long book about a very lot of things, most of which throw back to shows like Gargoyles and Supernatural. The gargoyles in this book seem to take the place of people like the Winchesters, who hunt demons other things that go bump in the night in order to protect humanity. Many other character similarities occur, but giving details would be spoiling. 

As the synopsis suggests, Trinity possesses a secret that could endanger her and those around her. The suspense surrounding what exactly this secret can be what propels a reader through about 50% of this book. After that, the plot switches to another mystery and keeps the readers' attention from there. 

Nothing about this book, to me, was original. Everything was gleaned from something else that I have read or seen before. While it was mildly enjoyable, I wish I could read something that was unique. These days, a female MC that can doesn’t need anyone because she is stronger than everyone is not original. It’s fantasy, though, so it’s plausible.

I will say the best quality of this book strictly belongs to the characters' interactions. With the exception of the overabundance of swearing and obscenities, the character banter was entertaining. In fact, had it not been as entertaining as it was, the book would have garnered only 1 star. I give it 2.5, which I’ll round up to 3. I kind of recommend it, but I know certain people will find it burdensome.

I do want to start this review by saying that I really recommend reading The Dark Elements trilogy before starting this series. It's a spinoff and can be read separately, but you'll understand the cameos and the world just a little bit more. The author explains the world, but I loved that I knew a lot of things while reading Storm and Fury.

Once again, Jennifer L. Armentrout gave me a book that I didn't want to put down. Storm and Fury is over 500 pages, so there was plenty to enjoy. If you've read The Dark Elements, you know Zayne! I had a soft spot for him then, so I was so excited that he was getting his own story. He's a great one for the list of book boyfriends. Zayne is caring, protective and very sarcastic. Even though past events have changed his outlook on things, he's still loyal to what he needs to do. Also, when he gets set on something, Zayne doesn't stop until it's done.

Trinity is the new main character we meet in this series and we read from her POV. She's not a warden and you know that there's more to her than meets the eye. I enjoyed her character, but I would've liked to have learned more about her earlier on. I felt kind of left in the dark during part of the story. That being said Trinity was a fun character to read about. She's stubborn, feisty and speaks without thinking. Also, she doesn't let her eye condition stand in her way of doing things. Her gift of seeing spirits and ghosts was a fun aspect of this story and it definitely added some interesting elements.

Then there's the connection between Trinity and Zayne. As soon as they meet it's clear that there's more going on. I liked seeing them explore this connection and the "will they, won't they" aspect was a lot of fun. I loved that they would bicker and be really sarcastic with each other, but I definitely felt that there was more. And there is and it wasn't exactly what I saw coming. I can't wait to see how their relationship continues to develop in the following books.

Besides the action packed story we get, Storm and Fury is also filled with touches of romance and lots of sarcasm. On top of that, Jennifer L. Armentrout always gives us an amazing cast of side characters. My favorite were the moments we got to see Roth and Layla again. I also became a fan of our latest side character, Peanut. A ghost that loves the '80s and has no respect for privacy. I hope we see a lot more of him in the next couple of books. 

All in all, Storm and Fury was a great start of a new series. Once again, Jennifer L. Armentrout didn't disappoint. I'm happy that I decided to wait a bit to read this, so I could read the sequel soon after. I know it's going to be a long wait for the third book though! I'm sure it'll be worth it though!

i was absolutely in love with the first 400 pages (mainly because i LOVED the characters (read: peanut and zayne)) but then the last 100 or so pages just really ... made me angry. i just wasn’t here for zayne suddenly turning into a douche, and the rest of the plot annoyed me and ended up hinting that he’s going to be an even bigger douche in the next book so ... can’t wait


2020 reread update: zayne still sucks, and cawpile says this is a 3 star but i pretend i do not see it

3.5 stars from me. I enjoyed this book, however I felt at times that it was lacking something or some element to it. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely read the 2nd book in this duology . I liked the main characters, and the fact that it's not about your typical supernatural characters was what sold the book to me. I mean c'mon gargoyles!? I was sold. I was not expecting the plot twist of who ended up being the bad guy at all. So props to the author for that. PS. Roth is my new fictional crush I don't give a ****.

If this review is all over the place, that's because that is how I am in real life lol.

Wow just wow. I really didn't know I could love a Zayne spinoff as much as I did. I totally called all the twists, and loved every minute of it. I cannot wait to read the next book to see how Trinity and Zayne's relationship progresses.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to think going into this book. I was extremely intrigued by the gargoyle shape shifter aspect, but sometimes paranormal books don't always hit the mark for me. This was also my first Jennifer L. Armentrout book. I'm very happy to say I really enjoyed myself. I love the plot, the angst, the characters and of course the paranormal aspects. 

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I for sure recommend it if you are into paranormal/ supernatural with romance. It reminded me of a combination of sweet Evil and the mortal instruments.
