Stronger, Faster, and More Beautiful features six short stories in chronological order that depicts what could happen or what people could do with advanced technology and genetic engineering. Interesting but a bit scary and I wasn’t super invested in some stories but they were all thought-provoking nonetheless.

Koncept mi je u startu zvučao prezanimljivo (6 manje ili više povezanih priča koje kroz različite etape budućnosti istražuju kako bi se ljudi razvijali da imaju znatno razvijeniju tehnologiju nego mi sada), ali nisam mislila da će nužno otići u ovakvom pravcu. Osim toga, paralela sa Westworldom dala mi je neka pogrešna očekivanja. Note to publishers:  Samo zato što ima nečega što široko gledano možemo da zovemo robotima, ne znači da je iole vezano za tu seriju. 

Iako je, čini mi se, više za YA publiku, bilo je tu dosta ozbiljnih i mračnih mesta i mislim da se Dejton nije suzdržavala da izgura svoje zamisli do kraja. Sve u svemu, dosta zanimljiva knjiga. Možda se naknadno ispostavi da ću baš dugo razmišljati o ovome što je imala da kaže, ali za sada mi je u tom nekom međuprostoru što se tiče utiska. A, da se ne zaboravi, druga i peta priča bile su mi najupačatljivije iz potpuno različitih razloga i volela bih da je celo delo tematski išlo u pravcu jedne ili druge - što bi se reklo, ili da je otišlo skroz mračno ili da je ostalo fluffy.

This is one novel, with six stories ranging from a couple of years in the future, to far in the future. They are all all looking at what life would be like with body modifications, which starts with the good intentions of medical applications, and diversifies from there. 



These six stories have different characters in them, and set in different times, with no exact number of years between, but we're told it's 'a few more years' into the future.



Stronger, Faster and More Beautiful was an enjoyable sci-fi look at the applications people could find to being able to modify their bodies, and isn't being told to preach to you, just to give you the room to look at the idea, and how wrong it could go.

I found the book fascinating, at first. Then I realized that each section of the story had different characters and none of the stories had resolution. I really dislike stories that leave things without resolution. Also, Reverend Tadd's transformation around the midway part of the book I find both horrifying and unbelievable. The motivation for that change in the character stretches the suspension of disbelief almost to its breaking point.
Also, that rather convenient, although gruesome, ending? A bit too deus ex machina for me.

Set in our world, spanning the near to distant future, the author, Arwen Elys Dayton, explores the possible consequences of advanced medical breakthroughs and how they may shape and reshape humanity. From organ donation to plastic surgery to full bodily reconstruction, these stories take you by your (for now, organic) hand and lead you into a future where the line between person and machine becomes increasingly blurred.

Breezed through the book for my book club. Arwen has all the makings of a good sci-fi author:
1. An idea about humans and humanity
2. Imagination to stretch the idea based on patters in history and current events
3. Come up completely plausible scenarios that make you sit and think for a second
4. A strong background in sci-fi/fantasy and its traditions.

The only thing that bothered me (and it was a tiny thing) is that she really wants to give happy endings to her characters. None of the six stories are tragedies in the classic sense and that sort of gives away the impact these ideas could have otherwise.

Sci-fi is so tough to nail, and she almost does it. I'm super excited to see what she writes next.
