A Good Time for the Truth is a book of essays written by people of color who live in Minnesota sharing their experiences with racism. The editor and authors are clear that they don't speak for anyone more than themselves, but they also do a good job of using statistics and other resources to strengthen their own arguments on why racism is still a problem even in a state that prides itself on being "Minnesota Nice." In fact, several authors make the argument that it's even more challenging to tackle equity in a state like Minnesota where people don't want to talk about the not-so-nice -isms that exist. It's one thing to read about racial injustice in the abstract, and it's entirely different when you read about places you know and frequent. I intend to pass this book along to others with the hopes of starting challenging conversations. And as someone who considers myself to be fairly educated on this topic, I still found this book to be eye-opening and valuable in bringing up new complexities and issues that I hadn't been previously exposed to in my other reading and giving me new ideas for how to approach the issue with other white people who don't see it as an issue in Minnesota.
