Susan Glaspell

"Trifles" is a one-act play by Susan Glaspell, who is considered an important feminist writer of the early Twentieth Century. The play was first performed in 1916 by the Provincetown Players in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The playwright played the role of Mrs. Hale. Glaspell is the author of seven full-length plays and eight one-act plays. In addition, she wrote nine novels and three collections of short stories.

I thought Trifles was a good short and sweet play, a lot happens in it in a brief time. It's like a mini mystery novel that shows how women tend to have a understanding with each other when it comes to marital problems and how men are blind to them. I also love how Minnie, the farmers wife, isn't in the play with dialog, but she feels like the main character and you get to know what she is like and what she went through.

Drama / Characters: 3 male, 2 female Scenery: interior Unusually powerful and effective, and gives fine roles for two good actresses. The wife of a strangled farmer is arrested on suspicion. While officers and neighbors are searching the old farmhouse for evidence, two women friends discover a slain canary and a broken cage.
