And so I went back to Fool's Gold... This time the protagonists are Noelle Perkins and Gabriel Boylan and a year has passed since the events of “A Fool's Gold Christmas”. Gabriel is an army doctor and, even though that wasn't the original plan, he ends up in Fool's Gold to spend the Holidays (from Thanksgiving till New Year’s) with his family at his brother Gideon’s home. It’s the first time Gabriel sees his brother since he’s found his happily ever after (in a previous book I haven’t read) and, despite the years they spent apart, they easily resume the easy relationship they always had. The problem remains their father, a professional sergeant who has always treated them like they were soldiers and that still criticizes every choice Gabriel makes. Luckily there is Noelle, his future sister-in-law's friend, to keep him distracted…

Noelle moved to Fool's Gold a few months ago and opened a Christmas store (that I must admit, has me doubting its viability during the rest of the year…). After going through some rough times, Noelle is determined to be happy, settle down and start a family. And she knows Gabriel wants nothing of that, so getting involved with him is a really bad idea… But the attraction between them is too strong and it doesn't help that he’s gotten himself employed at her store to avoid spending time with his father…

Gabriel has the opportunity to leave the army, which is one more thing to disagree with his father, but he’s not sure what to do because he’s not sure what he really wants. What he does know is what he doesn't want. He doesn't want to get attached to anyone since, courtesy of what he has experienced as an army doctor, he knows fully well how everything changes in an instant, and how brief and fragile life is. But spending time with Noelle and seeing the optimistic way she faces life, despite everything she went through, starts to make him reconsider if maybe there is another way to look at the future…

I really liked this story and its protagonists. They are both very real characters, with real and contemporary problems. And the whole setting of the town’s Christmas rites (that I’m beginning to get familiar with), as well of the setting of Noelle’s store, were particularly appropriate since I read it during the Holidays.

I caught this series in the middle, but I’m going to keep following it and I already have the next books waiting.

We get to see Gideon brother, Gabriel. Gebriel is in the military, but he is the doctor. He is slipping away because he can not handle to be in the military anymore. He cannot remember the last time he has laugh or smile anymore. However, his life changes when he meets Noelle. She is the definitely opposite of him that it intrigued him more. She lives in the moment because she recovered from her illnes. They are definitely attracted of each other that their interaction is so hilarious and cute. This book will definitely make you laugh, smile, anger, and shocked. A must-read book!
