This book was a fun read that would be good for reading on vacation or as a stress-reliever. Colasanti's characters and scenarios were easy to relate to. I would recommend this book to high school students in need of some enjoyable reading.

This story had me at the first John Mayer reference. It's funny, smart, interesting, and full of wonderful multi-layered characters. I identified very much with Marisa and loved being a part of her journey to find the best version of herself. Lots of great 90s pop culture references, which are considered retro in the context of the book. Somehow this managed to make me feel both nostalgic and ancient. This is by far my favorite Colasanti book I've read.

(This is a really lame review because I took too long to write it and forgot a lot. Sorry.)

I’m a huge fan of contemporary easy-reads. I mean… Sarah Dessen is one of my favorite authors, so it should come as no surprise that I dig Susane Colasanti too. Waiting for You is the second book I’ve read by Colasanti (When it Happens being to first) and I enjoyed every second of it. It was a breeze to read, but there were real issues being handled throughout the whole book that made it more down to Earth.

Marisa, the main character, is dealing with issues of first love and other general human problems, including the recent divorce of her parents. The emphasis on Marisa’s parents is actually one of the reasons I liked Waiting for You so much. Especially during a divorce situation it’s really easy to write the parents out of the book and call them “busy”, but Marisa’s parents are very much involved during most of this novel and—despite their problems—active in Marisa’s life.

As far as the romance aspects of this novel go I feel like it was pretty predictable. There are two guys Marisa is drawn to and a secret guy who goes by the name of Dirty Dirk (and airs podcasts every night that the high school kids are drooling over throughout the entire book). Dirty Dirk was an interesting part of the story, but his character would have been so much better had it taken me longer than negative two seconds to figure out who he really was. Oh, well.

As a whole this book was speedy to read and interesting to boot. It’s a perfect book for that day you want to stay inside with a cup of tea and laze on the sofa. It’s not too heavy or too light, making it great to read at any time. I’ll definitely be looking into more books by Susane Colasanti.

you know those smells? like the smell of the pool, or a specific house or candle, the way spring smells? it’s weird how all those smells remind you of the good ol days of childhood. those days for me were the days before i had to worry about phones and social life at school, when id go outside for hours and feel one with the earth and just feel so happy for no actual reason. well that’s what this whole book reminded me of. and it made me wish that i was the age i am now in 2010 , when i was really in kindergarden. growing up in the 60s or 80s are even early 2000s seems so fun cuz you did all your socializing actually at school, not online. and all the kids that you went to school with were close by, maybe even in your neighborhood, and you could all hang out and go outside whenever you feel like it. no one wants to go outside anymore but staying inside sucks. anyways this book was great and totally got me thinking way too much.
