The Hike

Susi Holliday2022
Four hikers enter the mountains. Only two return. But is it tragedy? Or treachery? When sisters Cat and Ginny travel with their husbands to the idyllic Swiss Alps for a hiking holiday, it's not just a chance to take in the stunning scenery. It's an opportunity to reconnect with each other after years of drifting apart--and patch up marriages that are straining at the seams. As they head into the mountains, morale is high, but as the terrain turns treacherous, cracks in the relationships start to show. With worrying signs that someone might be following them, the sun begins to set and exhaustion kicks in. Suddenly, lost high on a terrifying ridge, tensions spill over--with disastrous consequences. When only two of the four hikers make it down from the mountain, the police press them for their story--but soon become suspicious when their accounts just don't add up. What really happened up on that ridge? Who are the survivors? And what secrets are they trying to hide?

I thought this was pretty good - I didn’t work it out until the end and I stayed interested in figuring it out.

Why Did I Pick Up This Book?
- Currently on a Mystery / Thriller kick, Amazon recommended this one.

What Is This Book About?
-2 couples go hiking after a long hiatus from vacations due to the pandemic in order to re-connect. Cat, the character that planned the trip, right off seems to have ulterior motives. The story does flip back and forth between the 4 characters, showing they're all most likely hiding secrets.

What Did I Like or Dislike About This Book? aka Pros and Cons
-Susi Holliday's (author) writing is easy to read. Wasn't superfluous. It flowed, she took it to each plot point logically.
-Characters had depth. None of them were as they originally seemed. Even the ones written to be contrary had a purpose.
-The pacing was slow to start, that lent to the mystery. It did pick up, almost too quickly, near the end. Ending had a lot of twists.

Would I Read the Book Again?
-Most likely not, knowing the ending. The mystery helps push the plot forward. Would recommend it though. May also look into the author's other works.
