I keep going between a 4 and a 3 as I only wish it was longer. We really need to get a better rating scale for situations like this — 3.5 please. I just wanted more from the story and the ending felt too abrupt to me.

A heartfelt story of the hardship of both immigrating to and starting a life in America. This story started out a little but slow, but ramped up pretty quick. With the topics of self identity, community, and acceptance at the forefront of this novel, Susie Luo told a beautiful story of the meaning of family.

It was really cool to read a novel about the life of an Asian American family from an Asian American writer. It opened my eyes to certain feelings and difficulties those in my own community may be experiencing. Was a beautifully eye opening story.
