Absolutely amazing. The art, the cover, the pages, the words. Although the poems lacked a little depth I still couldn't help but fall in love with each and every one. It almost felt like we were catching a glimpse into her personal journal with her thoughts and feelings and I honestly loved that aspect. 

I can't wait for future poetry to come from Lili Reinhart.

I pre-ordered this book months before it came out after I read the poem that starts "I seem to be your new favorite novel." As an avid reader and a woman in love, I connected instantly with the poem and my heart demanded to read more from Reinhart. 

Upon the book's arrival, I packed it for a trip to Pennsylvania for a friend's wedding weekend. On the first morning, I sat on the Airbnb's front porch, enjoying the chill of the October morning, and read this book cover to cover. I sat down expecting to just read a few pages of it to get merely a taste but finished it in one sitting. Each poem was short yet delicious. Sometimes I would be still and savor one before turning to the next page. I took a picture of three of the poems to send to my friend as representatives of the love she was about to prove through marriage. 

Poetry is best when it is full of real emotions. That way I can truly connect with the author in order to find the true meaning of the poetry. This book feels as if Lili Reinhart took the words from where they were tattooed on her heart. Even the lightest poems are weighted with the deepest emotions. Our hearts connected through the pages, so every one of Lili's heartbreaks and joys became one of my own. 

If Lili writes another book of poems, I'll be certain to pre-order once again and wait in excitement until it gets there.

I must admit that i expected something more out of this, but I'm not quite sure what? 

a great deal of the poems revolve around being in love, the experience of falling out of love, and being cheated on. i relate to none of these experiences, so while they written well (I think) i simply do ! not ! understand !

some of them felt more similar due to things I've gone through in my life, but not as much as I thought. there were fewer poems revolving around her depression/mental health than I was expecting (which is obviously her prerogative to do) which I had been hoping for. 

i think if you are a fan of lili then you'll probably enjoy this more than I did.

Sat down and read this cover to cover in 45 minutes tonight! If this is a debut, I can’t wait to see what comes next. Some of the lines throughout this collection are beautiful, there’s relatable poems and a variety of shorter and longer pieces to suit all readers. Whilst I enjoyed the book overall, I’ve rated at a 3 star as I feel there are some poems that miss the mark slightly. There are some beautiful quotes that I have highlights and marked for future reference. Lili has the potential to be a phenomenal and influential poet.

Lili Reinhart is such a beautiful, expressive soul with the heart of a poet, but her debut collection of poetry betrays that. Swimming Lessons feels restrained and like a carbon-copy of Rupi Kaur, as if the only way the publisher thought Reinhart's poetry could be marketable was if it followed the same formula that Instagram poets use.

Nothing about Swimming Lessons feels authentic to the person Reinhart presents herself as through social media. While some of the poems felt genuine, most of them were indistinguishable from other poets who use no rhyme scheme, throw in random spacing, and couple their "poems" with poor line art. Reinhart is outspoken about her struggles with mental health and her Instagram is filled with pictures that represent her artistic spirit, but so little of that is shown in this book of poetry that I was shocked when I began reading the poems. It's just such a bitter disappointment to read these "poems" and feel so little emotion behind them--Reinhart's Instagram captions are more poetic and thoughtful than 90% of Swimming Lessons.

Do one of these four stars exist because of the name on the cover of this book? Maybe. It’s hard to say for certain. This felt slightly timid, but there were pieces in here that were written surprisingly well for someone who has never seemed to exhibit any interest in writing. Obviously she has a whole ass team behind her, which probably means I am being especially biased by giving her four stars. But. It was also way better than I thought it would be. Which counts for something, I think.

I think that these poems were not that good as I thought they would be. I was really hoping for something special. Since it's her first poetry book I think she did good. 
Lili has a lot of potential and I hope she will keep writing.

I love this book. I haven’t resonated and related to a poetry book like this in so long. She touched upon so many topics but I could feel each one. She made the words on the page evoke so much in me. There were so many times i was bookmarking favorites. I will definitely be rereading this collection sometime soon.
