** spoiler alert ** 4.5 stars Man, am I glad I read this one! It was so much better than solo - the characters were likable as well as relatable, the story was pretty good and didn’t have any useless feeling things to it (looking at you, solo), and the writing was just better. This is the first book in this style that I’ve actually enjoyed, solo and brown girl dreaming felt shallow and boring, while swing had depth and a plot that kept me listening. And listening to the author read it might have helped, along with the jazz in between parts. This is one I’m proud to have on my shelf!

Ouch. What a magnificent book that would be perfect in all aspects and then the end - the punch in the gut that takes it from great to beyond. A book with so many connections that could be made, so many trails that can be followed by hungry readers.
