More squishy horror from Kingfisher. It’s not like regular horror, and it’s not like horror without the gore, it’s a different kind of horror, like, horror for drinking tea. Sweater-horror. Cottage Corror. Anyways it’s a sequel and it’s lovely and kind of gross but also, I’ll probably read it again in October for vibes.

Amidst the fun banter T Kingfisher knows how to build tension and suspense and keeps you on the edge on what will happen next to whom.

Is cozy horror a thing? More spooky folklore than gothic horror this time, but I enjoyed this second adventure with Easton and the gang!

As always, a pleasure to spend time with Alex Easton; this was more fairy-tale than horror (tl;dr, the folktale is real), and Kingfisher continues to be the only horror author I can cope with.

You can always rely on T. Kingfisher to give you a cosy creepy story. The cast of characters is colourful as ever.

I felt that the parallels between Alex's own (what is clearly) PTSD and the moroi. It was a clever and direct reference to a long history of explaining mental illness / struggles through folklore and help introduce an element of uncertainty whether the spirit was also torturing Alex or it was their own mental health.

You can always rely on T. Kingfisher to give you a cosy creepy story. The cast of characters is colourful as ever.
