Lick My Wounds
The pavement bites into the soles of my feet with each stride as the rain and cold air pierce into my skin. The aluminous glow can be seen just through the branches. Safety, that glow brings safety. I feel sick to my stomach yet wired on adrenaline. Fear is what keeps me going. Even as the blood pours from my body and the pain cripples me I continue to push through. Push to survive. He can’t find me. I need to keep going. I can hear my name echo through the wind. “DAVIES.” The anger is his tone is enough to make my stomach churn, my knees shake. I can feel the tears welling in my eyes. Fighting to break free but I keep pushing. Even as the rocks and pebbles cause excruciating pain. Because I know, if he reaches me I’m dead. I broke free from him. I built a new life. I changed my name and my appearance but after a near assault on the streets of Brooklyn I find myself in the eyes of a mysterious stranger. A man from a different world than mine. His eyes are dark and dangerous. He could potentially risk everything I’ve built. Have I just ran from one man of darkness to another? Or could we help heal each others wounds.
