Act Your Age, Eve Brown A Novel

Talia Hibbert2021
Eve Brown is a certified hot mess. No matter how hard she strives to do right, her life always goes horribly wrong. So she’s given up trying. But when her personal brand of chaos ruins an expensive wedding (someone had to liberate those poor doves), her parents draw the line. It's time for Eve to grow up and prove herself—even though she's not entirely sure how… Jacob Wayne is in control. Always. The bed and breakfast owner’s on a mission to dominate the hospitality industry and he expects nothing less than perfection. So when a purple-haired tornado of a woman turns up out of the blue to interview for his open chef position, he tells her the brutal truth: not a chance in hell. Then she hits him with her car—supposedly by accident. Yeah, right. Now his arm is broken, his B&B is understaffed, and the dangerously unpredictable Eve is fluttering around, trying to help. Before long, she’s infiltrated his work, his kitchen—and his spare bedroom. Jacob hates everything about it. Or rather, he should. Sunny, chaotic Eve is his natural-born nemesis, but the longer these two enemies spend in close quarters, the more their animosity turns into something else. Like Eve, the heat between them is impossible to ignore... and it’s melting Jacob’s frosty exterior.

3.75 out of 5 almost a 4 i found the story charming and cute overall but did feel that some of the scenes in the third act felt a little rushed and wished we could an gotten just a little more time there to let things develop. overall still enjoyed the story and loved eve and jake’s chemistry. talia’s way of writing rom coms always leaves me with a smile on my face and has me giggling in some places. the brown sisters were all so unique and charming and i enjoyed spending time with each of them i still think dani’s story is my favorite by a hair but eve is right behind her. this story was nice to unwind with and and i will check out more of talia’s romance novels in the future when she releases more.

** spoiler alert ** I think I’m in love with Eve Brown. I’m still debating whether I want to be her or want to be her best friend. She’s funny, smart and the sweetest bean ever. I’m kinda sad that the trilogy is over. Side note: How does this entire story take place in 2 weeks? Also, why is Eve so surprised when her parents turn up at the Bed and Breakfast? If I disappeared to some strange town with no prior warning my parents would bring the town down. (No exaggeration)

4/5 I need the hero to come pick me up and ask me to marry him. “I told you before, that there are different ways to fail. Imperfection is inevitable. That’s life. But it doesn’t sound to me like you failed at all, Eve. It sounds like your dream broke, and you’ve been picking up shattered pieces, and blaming yourself when your hands bleed.” “You're not just my sunshine; you're the sun” “The world would be a much better place if they stopped congratulating themselves on being normal and started to accept that there were countless different normals.”

The neurodivergence rep is EVERYTHING

I loved how fast paced this was (still slow burn romance). I found the second in the series to be a bit slow and too low stakes, this one is equal to be absolute love of the first one (all standalones).

This was actually a cute book. The fact that it was written in third person and I actually enjoyed it is a bonus. I love how both characters grow and discover themselves individually and together!

Alas, the long-awaited final Brown sister novel!!! I have to say, out of the three books, this was my least favorite. The steaminess wasn't as well-done as the first two, and, although I found Eve relatable in a lot of ways, the romance felt very forced. I wish that Jacob's autism was a larger focus. It also felt like Eve's realization that she may be on the Autism Spectrum Disorder felt haphazard. Nonetheless, I have been made a fan of Hibbert's work and I plan to support her in any future endeavors - Black romance for the win!

Third book in this trilogy featuring the Brown sisters. Eve is the youngest and flits like a butterfly from thing to thing, seemingly unable to focus her attention or face adult responsibilities. Her parents put their feet down and give her an ultimatum. They will not give her any more money until she gets a job and keeps it for a whole year. She goes for a drive to clear her head and ends up in a village at a Bed and Breakfast that is interviewing for a new chef. On a whim she goes in and asks to interview. It goes terribly, but she ends up accidentally hitting the owner, Jacob, with her car as she is rushing to leave. She decides to stay and do a trial period as the chef while the owner recovers from his injuries. They desperately need someone to cook and he can't do it at all with one broken arm. It is very awkward and Eve and Jacob seem like total opposites. (Yes, grumpy sunshine trope). But they have more in common than either of them suspect. Again, the humor works for me. I love the plus-sized representation. Both main characters are also neurodiverse. There are very sweet and emotional moments. I really enjoyed this read. Some nice steam, too.

I liked this one better than the first book. I couldn't take the second book sister so I ended up skipping it. I enjoyed it and felt like their relationship was natural and not forced. It was also sweet. I am glad I read it. I don't know how I feel about the trend to have ever character have a diagnosis. On the other hand, would the book even be interesting? I need to think about it more.

Loved the book. Eve is definitely a chaotic mess but I love her. She is funny, entertaining and extremely charming. Would love to be her friend. The sunshine/grumpy dynamic between her and Jacob was exceptional. I really enjoyed their banter. I think they were made to be together. The smut. I was a little shocked. The smut was 10/10. When writing a smut, Talia Hibbert does not miss. This is definitely a book you should read. In fact, I highly recommend the entire Brown Sisters trilogy.

This really has so much of what you want from a rom com. Great banter, adorable main characters, and something to root for! I loved that we got both of their perspectives, not just Eve’s. I think I’m a Talia Hibbert fan now.

Talia Hibbert can write spice and sexual tension like no other. Dear lord, the way this book made me blush. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK AT WORK. I learned that the hard way. I thought Chloe was intense, then I realized Dani was even spicier but Eve Brown took me by surprise. However, enough with the slow burn, Miss Talia. I'm an anxious girl, dive straight into the action, please! I'm going to miss the Brown Sisters.

Is it a Talia Hibbert romance without a third-act break-up literal pages after they finally have sex followed by a grand confession of love. *rolls eyes*

She loved music, loved performing, but didn't want to make it her livelihood. It wouldn't suit her. She'd learned that at some point over the years.

“… And then, on top of it all, there was the look." She pressed her lips together and flicked a glance at Jacob because, well, this part was so excruciatingly awkward to speak about. Some people wanted to pretend they didn't understand, as if her prettiness negated all the other things she was, and all the ways those other things didn't fit in with society's expectations. Then there were the people who acted like it shouldn't hurt, being rejected by the status quo like that. As if, because it came from a twisted place of inequality, it shouldn't have any hold on her. Which was a nice idea in principle, but Eve found it mostly came from those who'd never been personally crushed by the weight of all that disapproval.
