I find this book is... really heavy to read. Not because its historical/mythology theme (i LOVE the genre, by the way) but its because Freydis' endless tunnel of despair seems endless (which, it is...). It feels like the story is going nowhere and everywhere at the same time. I also don't find any story build up or even character development. Speaking of the genre of the book, I decided to buy it because it was marked as mythology-fantasy in the book store, but I had to say I regret not researching the book online before buying it because there are little to none mention of Norse mythology in the book. Plus, maybe it's me who's been so spoiled by internet literature filled with trigger warning, but I feel like this book should have its trigger warning at the beginning. There are lots of sexual and sexual violence scenes that also makes it hard for me to continue reading. 

All in all it's a book that's enough to be read once. It's interesting to read about Norse history, especially about how strong Freydis is navigating the voyage of her life. But I was expecting the voyage to be a little more literal and explicit in the book rather than just a heavy backstory of the reason she deciced to go on the voyage.

I enjoyed this book. I found it similar to Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young, which is perfect because that was the mood I was ready for. If you like strong women and Norse mythology this is it.
