The House of Doors

History novel set during the 1910s and 1920s in Penang Island. Willie Somerset Maughan and his secretary are visiting a couple. Willie will connect with the wife who will tell her story 10 years before. Beautifully written, interesting context as we meet Sun Yatsen and his followers. The island is gorgeous but that novel also depicts the colonialism at that time and a society obviously not ready to accept diversity.
