Girth is poetry that intermingles the personal and the political. Set in the time period of the 2012 student strikes in Quebec. McGowan-Ross recounts her experiences as an activist, but also her struggles as a person that didn't disappear when she needed to concentrate on political needs. It is, at times, an immature narrative, but that's to be expected from someone in their early twenties, and McGowan-Ross does an excellent job at portraying the emotional trials and interpersonal struggles of Montreal kids of a certain political persuasion.
