No redeeming characters are a big no for me. She had not a single good quality in sight and he was as bland as paper. Yes, the author told me over and over again he was rich and hot and talented but we never see that, he was a pathetic man with no backbone in his body.

Wow. I was speechless (and thoughtless!) when I finished this, around 2 o’clock last night. This was seriously unputdownable. To say this book was an emotional roller coaster is an understatement. I felt disoriented, wow’ed, excited, a little depressed… I felt like I was sucked up in this whirlwind of emotions and tossed back out. There is an addictive quality to how Tarryn Fisher writes, and even after the whiplash I received I wanted more.

This was more than just a romance novel. It’s a book about obsession, about self destruction, what if’s and second chances, and about redemption. And boy, is it good.

Olivia Kaspen should not be a likable protagonist. In fact, she does a lot of terrible things in this book. She’s deceitful and manipulative and when the opportunity arrises for a second chance with her true love, you bet she takes full advantage. And yet, I could empathize with Olivia. I yearned for Caleb along with her. The flashback chapters do help us see their past relationship; how truly, deeply in love they once were and how devastatingly broken she is to have thrown it all away.

A part of me- a big part- wanted her to win. Another part of me wanted her to get caught, or at least own up to her mistakes. The characters, even her beloved Caleb, are all scheming to get what they want. I have to give the author a lot of credit. She has amazing talent in writing a story with characters who do these despicable things and I still cannot get enough of them.

The next book in this series, Dirty Red is due out later this year and it looks like it will be in Leah’s POV. I hated Leah, she was definitely the villain in The Opportunist, but at this point I will read anything from Tarryn Fisher. She’s got me hooked.

I am confused. I have finally had the chance to finish this and the only thing I feel is confusion. Ugh, I don't even know what to say. I felt detached for most of the book and then... The last 30% happened and I was hit with confusion, sadness, anger,more confusion. A decent review will come, sooner or later, I swear

The book is probably a reminder why I love Tarryn and why I need to be best friends with Olivia. As broken as Olivia was, I can't help but relate to her torment throughout the book. She had a lot of internalized issues that, frankly, a lot of us have. Her character development was amazing! Probably my favorite of Tarryn's leading girls (like Helena). On the other hand we have Caleb, the main guy protagonist and probably my only favorite guy out of the Tarryn books I've read. Such a cute bastard but gahhhh I wanted to gouge my eyes out a few times when he popped up. 

I think the language she used in this book is also my favorite. She really plays with the idea of what it means to be truthful to oneself vs. another person, and if there is any difference in those two, as well as the decisions you make and the consequences that follow. Lying and telling the truth or omitting something because you don't want to hurt the person you care about (OR you do want to hurt them): those are all really powerful decisions that we make on a day to day basis and they have the ability to destroy a whole person's life. Your life and other's lives will inevitably be altered irrevocably.

I've been reading through reviews and I'm wondering if I should read this book again. This book has such high praise but I don't get it. I don't remember liking it all that much.

Holy Crap!!! My heart went through an emotional rollercoaster throughout this book! If I thought Avoiding Responsibility was infuriating, this topped it! I don't even know why I didn't read this before now! My heart broke hundreds of times throughout this book; I had tears in my eyes for some parts.

However, some things Olivia did I did not agree with. Like the whole Jessica Alexander stuff. And at first I thought it was strange and a bit psychotic the way she pretended to not know Caleb. I then fell for past and present Caleb and it didn't weird me out so much when we find out he was faking the amnesia.

The last 25% of the book I did not really like though. The whole 'four years later' and he's already married Leah. I found it was stupid! And then there was the whole her marrying Noah thing at the end. I love any man named Noah, but for me Olivia is destined to be with Caleb.

Hopefully they get their HEA in Caleb's book. I'm still undecided whether I should read Leah's novel or not...

I am not entirely sure how this book escaped my radar until just a couple weeks ago, but I'm really glad it did. Not for the reasons you think, though. It was amazing. It's also part of a trilogy. Had I had to wait months between books, instead of mere minutes (yes, you read that right), I think I would have exploded. Literally. As it was, I could barely wait for the second (and third) books to download to my iPad before I dove right into them. I finished the entire trilogy in about a day and a half... during my lunch hour and after work. That's perfectly normal, right?

I could tell from the blurb on Goodreads that this wasn't going to be a light and fluffy romance. But, my word, I couldn't have predicted it would be quite as intense... angsty... and, at times, absolutely gut-wrenching as it was. The writing had so much depth. The characters were so complex, so well-developed, so unpredictable. I was kept guessing as to what would come next the entire book. I LOVE that in a book. Predictable is nice sometimes, but so is reading something so unpredictable, so unlike anything I'd ever read up until that point.

So many lies. So many manipulations. So many misunderstandings. So many betrayals. So many missed chances.

Olivia was unstable. Manipulative. She had virtually no self-esteem. She was the other woman. I absolutely loved her. I rooted for her for the entire book. I wanted her to get Caleb back, at any cost. (I have no idea what this says about me as a person. I don't think I want to know either.) Caleb was absolutely swoon-worthy. He was the college jock who always got what he wanted. After all, who wouldn't give it to him? I hated Leah, his current girlfriend. Of course, I was supposed to hate her. Tarryn's Goodreads profile states that she loves villains. She writes a damn good one here. The notes I made about Leah while reading this book weren't flattering. I think I'll let you use your imagination. They're best left in the notes section of my Kindle app. Noah was such an incidental character in this book, but I connected with him. All that said, sorry Noah, you're no Caleb.

This book was unputdownable. The twists were incredible. I didn't see them coming a mile away. I understand why the book ended the way it did, but it still didn't stop me from wanting to hurl my iPad across the room. Throughout the course of the trilogy, multiple people commented on the fact that what Olivia and Caleb had for each other wasn't love, it was obsession. I can see both sides of this argument. But what I can say, without a doubt, is that I was utterly obsessed with this series: the characters, the storyline, the betrayals, the relationships. It was dark, intense, but in the best way possible.
