Writing reviews for friends is always exciting and nerve wracking. I’m so proud of Tati! Over the past year, I have seen her focus and the full dedication to her book and it’s admirable! Here I go…

The Ambrosia Throne pulled me in and kept me in its claws, compelling me to keep flipping pages. The story is told in two timelines, the before and the after. I loved the Zeus backstory, but I also loved learning about Finnian and Lilith. 

The character development was mainly focused on Zeus’ character but we do see growth in Lilith and Finnian for sure. The twists and betrayals were luring and well constructed. I enjoyed “the before”, I loved learning about the divinity of these gods and putting together the pieces of Lilith story. 

We don’t see spice in this one, but the dynamic between Finnian and Lilith was so cute, their banter had me rooting for them. I really loved the world building, we learn a lot in this book with regards to why the “Ambrosia” is sought out. 

I am so excited and superrrr anxious to get my hands on the next book. Tati left us with a cliffhanger that I didn’t see coming. So proud of you my friend, this is just the beginning. Lots of success in the future! <3

I went into THE AMBROSIA THRONE willingly knowing as few things about it as possible. The author, Tati, is a dear friend, and I wanted to be as surprised as I possibly could by her debut book. Mission accomplished! This is a story that keeps on building. I adored the dual timeline—The Before, which follows the upbringing of a very young Zeus into adolescence, and The After, which follows Lilith and Finian many years later—and how every new chapter was like a puzzle piece, surrendering a piece of information that helps create a full picture of the world building and the plot. Even so, there were so many unexpected twists that had me gasping and wanting to chuck the book against the wall and then beg its forgiveness while crying.

My favorite part? The characters, of course! For once, as much as I loved the secondary cast—especially my baby Zarek— the main three stole the show. I loved how distinct their voices were, how I felt like I was getting to know them along the way and didn’t realize how obsessed I was until I suddenly couldn’t put the book down. It was such an all-encompassing feeling, the kind only achieved by a great book and a talented wordsmith. Zeus’s story, in particular, got me in a special way. Greek Mythology is so often reimagined, but this is the first time I’ve come across such a rendition of Zeus, one that is fragile, misunderstood, relatable.

In short, this is the book you need if you love Greek Mythology and want a new, surprising take on it, and if you love a good balance between plot and characters. I promise you, you’ll be obsessed. I’m counting down the days until I have the sequel in my hands because the need is strong!

So, I am writing this review immediately after completing my second read through of this amazing debut novel by the incredible Tati B. Alvarez. I am so very honored to have taken part in this project as Tati's editor--THANK YOU, my dear sweet friend. I love this book, I love you, and I am SO very proud of you and this insanely cool accomplishment!

The Ambrosia Throne presents the most brilliant blend of two of my favorite things: epic medieval-style fantasy and ancient Greek mythology. I have read and loved many Greek myth-inspired retellings and countless high fantasy stories, but this is the first one that so beautifully combined the two! Think the mythical reimagining of Circe by Madeline Miller, with a dash of unforgiving fantasy series like A Song of Ice and Fire. Absolutely NO ONE is safe y'all, and get ready to reframe all you know about the gods and goddesses. In short prepare to be shocked and broken and exhilarated all.at.once. when you enter the world of Dasos.

The narrative follows three perspectives: Lilith, Finian, and Zeus, the thunder-and-lightning-clad baddie himself. Lilith captured my heart immediately, not just for her warrior prowess (she certainly has that in badass abundance), but mostly for her fierce compassion for others. She's a stranger to the city of Dasos yet she finds family and friendship so quickly because of the affection she feels for others. She's SO very special to me and I look forward to watching her evolve and shine in the sequel!!

Finian...oh, darling Fin. This boy makes me belly laugh and get all hot and bothered at the same time. His unconditional love for Lilith is astounding--I felt myself swoon hard multiple times because he's just so genuinely supportive and selfless. Fin is both a blacksmith and a storyteller, which I feel is the best way to describe the duality of his character: fiery and strong as iron, but comforting and kind like your favorite fairytales.

Lilith and Finian have such an endearing relationship that is founded on both a strong friendship as well as a spiritual bond. I was smitten with these two immediately, mostly for the nonstop adorable banter and sexual tension. Their story is one of promise, pain, and passion. I cannot wait to see where they land in book two--I am literally DYING over here waiting for more!

And then there's Zeus. I adore Tati's reimagining of this iconic god so much because rather than the typical womanizing, self-righteous, and downright evil dude we've come to know, she writes this character from the very moment of his conception. From infancy, we get to see Zeus looked upon as inferior to his two older brothers, twins Hades and Poseidon. For the first time EVER, my heart swelled for Zeus and rooted for him from start to finish. I particularly love the fresh take on Zeus' "Olympus" you'll seen in Ambrosia and I'm avoiding spoilers here, but trust me when I say it's nothing like anything you've seen before!

The side characters may actually have run away with first prize for me, though! Chloe and Idina were such heartwarming examples of adoptive motherhood I've ever seen in a fantasy book and it touched me deep in my soul. But I know without a doubt that once we begin to learn more, Zarek is going to steal the show for me! Other gods/goddeesses you'll get to see in Ambrosia include Cronus, Gaia, Rhea, and Hermes!

Equal parts devastating and empowering, this book was a rollercoaster of political court intrigue, mysterious burgeoning powers, and unpredictable twists and turns. I think my absolute favorite thing about this book is the masterful way Tati weaves two intricate plot lines separated by centuries into a catastrophic and mind-blowing ending. I am DESPERATE for Dawn of Dasos #2!
