If disappointment was a book, it’s this one. Sorry, not sorry. I loved Taylor’s writing so much in “Daisy Jones and The Six”. When I say so much, I mean that I’ve re-read it like three times. 

But this one didn’t land the mark. It was shallow and boring, the writing not even close to what I imagined. All I know is that I was glad it was over. The second star is only to show my respect for Daisy and the author who created her magic.

I can see why people are excited about this book, but obviously not for me since I'm not the one who pay attention or get interested in the life of the glamorous people, so to speak.

The storytelling is excellent, I read it quite fast, it's almost reading a gossip article from a tabloid. 

The story itself? Well, it's about the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo, of course. 
In the end, it just falls flat for my taste. What is it even the point of this book? I don't know anymore.

My goodness. This book was beautifulllll. And heartbreaking. I SOBBED lol. Which, I was not expecting. I went in thinking it would be a bit more “fun” than it turned out to be, but it was instead such a beautiful story. And definitely still had fun elements! Loved it.

This book was very good. I loved how imperfectly perfect all the characters were. It was a book where you cannot ever pin the blame on one person and it becomes a beautifully woven story. (view spoiler)[I did almost cry at a few scenes when some of the beloved characters died.  (hide spoiler)] I also loved how Evelyn was such a powerful figure and feminist overall. I was, however, expecting a little bit more from all the hype. Still, not a disappointment at all.

This is a great representation of the reality of life. Taylor Jenkins Redi did a great job at pointing out how cruel and complicated life can be. It tackles self-discovery, finding your purpose, finding true and unconditional love, and even finding your soul mate and still giving them your heart and soul even if you are already apart.

Love this book! It's a great pause from my psycho thriller books marathon 🤭

           Gosh, I didn't realize at first look of this book that the narrator was a bi-racial woman nor the many LGBTQ+ themes throughout the novel. I absolutely loved this book and flew right through it. 

I loved Monica's father, who throughout the book played a smaller role, but his dedication to Monica's happiness for the future even as a child was so wholesome, "You have to find a job that makes your heart feel big instead of one that makes it feel small" (pp. 89) "For a brief moment, I wonder if I would have listened to him if he hasn't died." (pp. 90) The family themes throughout this book hit really close to home and left me feeling endlessly grateful for my parents support and dedication to my life. 

I loved that each relationship taught the reader and Evelyn something different. One of my favourite quotes that helped me was when Evelyn started to become more vulnerable in how she recognized relationships in her own life. "People think intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth." (pp. 112) 

I also loved the display of friendship love throughout this book, and how in life we are able to experience many different types of love. "Because our whole is greater than the sum of our parts" (pp. 115) The relationships we get to experience and form bond us with people for life, regardless of whether they are around for it. 

Another conversation had in the book that made me stop and think about the meaning in the book and beyond was about the difference between heartbreak and failure. Although this book discusses it deeply surrounding marriage and divorce, I think that that ties into so many aspects, especially connecting to how I feel about giving up. Am I upset because I gave up or because of the thing I am losing? 

Apparent at the end of the book, this book left me with an outstanding sense of love and wanting for acceptance. " 'Its not wrong,' Celia said. 'It shouldn't be wrong, to love you. How can it be wrong?' 'It's not wrong, sweetheart. It's not.' I said. 'They're wrong.' " (pp. 172) Like I mentioned, I had no idea the love expressed in this book and I was so impressed by how this story was conveyed. I loved the style of writing, how the story was broken up, how the book moved quickly but felt so encompassing. Overall, would one thousand percent recommend for a lovely and heartfelt read.

This book wow. loved it so much more than I expected. So many themes were covered in this book, from fame to ambition to friendship and love in all its forms. Evelyn was such a complex character. one minute I was questioning her decisions and not liking her, and the next I was full-on admiring her. I loved it. I cried like a baby as well aha.
