Truth and Measure

10 years later and still the best fanfic ever written.

Ok, so I've realize I'm addicted to emotionally charged romance stories. I need the angst, drama, tears; you name it. Out of the past 30 books I've read, only three fulfilled my addiction. So rather than wade through another 30+ books just to stumble on "The One," I decided to reread Truth and Measure. Why not? It's free, and I enjoyed the previous ride. 
  
Now that I've had my fixed, Truth and Measure has bumped Lee's The Brutal Truth as my favorite lesbian romance. Truth and Measure has a captivating amount of wit, banter, arguments, angst, declarations of love, lust, jealousy, humor, and the list can go on. I liked that the majority of the scenes are with Andrea and Miranda and not the with other characters (not counting the twins). If this were the case, I'm sure I would have skipped every page that did not have Miranda and Andrea it them. Speaking of pages, 800+ pages may be a turnoff for some, but I enjoyed reading every last one. This length allowed me to believe and feel every emotion of Andrea and Miranda's growing relationship. Also, telling the love story of two straight women (one pregnant with kids) who are a generation apart requires more narrative and dialogue. I would have had a hard time believing their love for each other had the story been shortened. If the story gets published, I'm sure the publisher will divide it into a series. My vote? Leave it as it is.  

I highly recommend this story. Don't let the page count dissuade you, just dive right in. To make the tale complete, read The Parting Glass, While She Sleeps, The Lie, and The Nest afterwards.

DWP fanfic has been my go to comfort re-reads for quite a while now. So when I saw Telanu was going to be published and some of my Goodreads friends were reading Truth and Measure - I jumped at the excuse to re-read it.

I first read this years ago, maybe around 2009? Although I've re-read it since then, it has been years. Why it took me so long to pick it up again? I have no excuse.

I set aside Memorial weekend to just sit and read and savor this book. I may have enjoyed it more now than when I first read it. It is long, especially since we are so accustomed to shorter books now days. But I never felt it was too long. (Oh, I'm sure a good editor could cut out some here and there). Its a shame, if it gets split into two books when it is published. (I'm not sure where the split would occur) I think some books and their sequels are not as good when they are read months apart.
