Zane asked, and his mouth broke into the biggest smile I have ever seen him make, and I couldn't help it. I just couldn't. The edges of my lips twitched upwards. 

I don't know how it made me feel that he was so surprised. 

But then again, it might have been the worst excuse for a smile, and no where near as beautiful as his was, but he was right. I did smile. Sober.

"Hey Seren!" I recognized Gavin as he came towards us. "I'm so happy you could come." He smiled at me. He raised his hands like he was about to hug me, but I guess he thought better of it, because his movements awkwardly changed into a fist bump.

Gavin's eyes lit up at my giggle, and he glanced at Zane. What is it with these guys and monitoring my mouth movements?

"You don't have to be sorry, Seren. It's okay to not be okay." Zane said as my eyes met his. 

How did I tell him that I wasn't simply not okay? I was gone.

"You didn't want me to talk to you." He answered finally. 

"So?" I urged him on. "That doesn't stop most guys."

Zane rubbed his chin, and I knew that he knew there was an underlying question that I wasn't putting into words.

"It's not hard to understand when a girl doesn't want your attention, Seren. You've never wanted mine." He said simply.

I didn't care what I looked like as I ran towards him. Zane didn't notice me until I was within feet of him, and his concerned expression quickly melted away and was replaced with a new emotion. I wasn't sure what it was. I didn't care. 

I have no metaphor to make what I did sound beautiful or graceful, because I'm sure it wasn't. I jumped on Zane and wrapped my arms around him without giving him a chance to even open his mouth in greeting. I nuzzled my face into his neck, met quickly by the comforting smell that he holds. I heard his body vibrate in laughter, no doubt at my strange behaviour. He tightened his arms around me, lifting my feet off the ground as he stood to his full height.

Zane looked at me like he wanted nothing more in life than for me to have peace.

I can see her pain, still. It wasn't gone, not even close. But I could see her starting to come back, more and more often. She was here. She was here and she was with me and then she was gone again. I didn't want her to go, anymore. I wanted her to stay here.

Zane's hand let go as our bodies hit the water. I felt the cool liquid cascade over me, soothing my skin. I felt the weight of my body pulling me down, before I propelled my legs and broke the surface. The warm air being sucked into my lungs. My legs gently dancing beneath me, keeping me afloat. I felt everything. I 

I can't describe the feeling that was shooting through me as I looked up at the brilliantly blue sky, the sun peaked behind a fluffy cloud. It felt like a flower had taken root in my heart, growing and unfurling its small leaves around my chest until the colourful petals finally bloomed.

I knew it was over from the way he said my name. 

"Seren." Zane said in an exaggerated calm. I could see from the look in his eyes that he was not calm at all. 

. It was too late. It was out there. It was gone, and I'd never get my secret back.

"I wasn't alone." I told him. "I had you."
