Invisible Emmie stars a rather socially awkward preteen trying to learn how to socialise in middle school. It's an admirable premise, but the implementation wasn't great. The narrative plot twist made it a bit hard to parse out exactly what was happening which could be a problem among the younger set. It was an interesting idea to have Emmie's imagination play such an important role, but in trying to keep that secret, the lessons get a bit mangled. Also, the book plays too close to the "I'm not like other girls" tropes that I think are super harmful for the age group this is aimed at.

I loved this graphic novel and related to it so much. It’s geared toward middle schoolers but anyone who’s ever felt awkward or like an outsider will totally love this. I will definitely be recommending it to young kids to show them that they can be confident and be themselves, but also to adults who remember what it’s like to feel invisible.

Quick read and help my interest, but nothing earth shattering. A little more original than some similar books since, as the main character says at the beginning of the book, she's not the normal type of outcast. She's not the stereotypical smart kid, band kind, or weird looking kid or any other trope often used. She's just quiet and is uncomfortable talking to other kids.

Good for a reluctant reader.
