Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake.

This was one of my dad's favorite books as a kid and he gave me his copies when I was little and I remember liking them, probably because I hadn't read lord of the rings yet. This was the most blatant, boring, lord of the rings clone I've ever seen. Two valemen (hobbits) living in a quiet valley are contacted by a tall giant wizard Allanon (Gandalf) who tells them they're in great danger from an old evil who is reawakening named Brona (Sauron) who once waged ancient war, then leaves and they have to run from the Vale (Shire) while being hunted by black shadowy flying monsters called Skullbearers (Nazgul) to meet a Northman (ranger) in an inn, etc etc etc. Everything that's not just LoTR is incredibly paint-by-numbers 1970s fantasy, I HIGHLY recommended you look up the art for both this book and Elfstones of Shannara because it's so fucking swag it's off the charts. It's also a good audiobook, the narrator I found does a great job, and because it's so generic fantasy and rips off LoTR it's very easy and cozy to listen to at work, if you aren't paying attention and miss a few pages it doesn't really matter.
