(i suppose it was something of a 3.5, more on the 3 side) honestly the premise was so excellent that it worked against the story for me. something less ambitious would have weaselled a 4.5 out of me but because this could be so much more i feel the gap in execution. i don't know what exactly didn't work for me, perhaps the drab and draggy dialogue (the "no? no"s, the unnecessarily generous pregnant pauses, the boring delivery, jones and carly basically having the same speaking cadence and vocabulary) which was the central control of the narrative didn't allow me to form any real connect with the characters, perhaps the audio-only + mockumentary format fell short on building the thrill, perhaps the is it real/is it not quandary limited the immersion... i don't know. but there was a void of That Something factor that could have made this one of my favourite podfics for me. and it's just a little sad because there were seeds! of jones/carly chemistry, of seat-gripping adrenaline, of questioning-my-own-reality impact. and they were good enough to sail me through the 10 episodes, and i really had fun if i'm being truthful. it wasn't ever really bad, just lacking. plus the ending, despite its predictable value, somehow worked for me. but yes i will probably not be tuning in for S2.
