Characters The central mystery of this story is why and how the accident happened to Sue’s daughter, a middle-aged mother. Was it really an accident? Or did she want to commit suicide? The main character was Sue and to be honest, I just hated her, asking many times how she could be so stupid as she was. Her actions were sometimes unreasonable. Her whole questionable behaviour only applies to her relationship with James, her previous boyfriend which was the other main plot of the book. Neither did I care about Sue’s continuous venting, her miserable emotional problems. Brian, her present husband on the other hand was fine. He was an average person, perhaps a bit too boring. The best characters were Charlotte’s friends: their reactions and behaviour were much more entertaining than Sue’s continuous complaining about her troubled life. It was enjoyable to read how they held back information, how they found excuses not to give a straight answer. Story This plot took place in the past, while the actual story was in the present. . The pace of the story was taken back by Charlotte’s friends who hardly gave any useful information to Sue, hindering her private investigation. This thing, however, was not bad at all: it made me think, find clues while the mystery was growing. However, I was still expecting something more at the end – which was a bit unsatisfying. Scenes The story gave me a quick glimpse at the nightlife of London: I could easily picture how young people are waiting in front of clubs for entering while drinking and chatting. The hospital, the family’s home where the rest of the scenes took place were also well described. Style The book is written in present and past tense, which worked well here. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in psychology, or psychothrillers because it raises the following questions: – How long can you love someone who is torturing you? – Can you always trust your loved ones? – Is there such a thing as going too far exists when you are looking for the truth? Perhaps you can answer them after reading it
