İlk növbədə deyim ki, Ali Smit qadındır. Kitabı bitirib müəllif bölməsindəki şəklin qadına məxsus olduğunu görəndə şəxsən mən çox təəccüblənmişdim.

Müəllifin dilimizə tərcümə olunmuş ilk kitabıdır deyə özü ilə də ilk tanışlığım idi. Yazı üslubunda qrammatik qaydaların gözlənilməməsi və qəliz cümlələr məni gərginləşdirirdi, orijinalda da müəllif belə yazı tərzinə sahibmiş, amma məncə burada tərcümə də öz sözünü deyir, bəlkə də uğurlu tərcümə deyil və bəxtimə beləsi düşdü.

Araşdırmalarıma görə müəllif xroniki yorğunluqdan əziyyət çəkirdi və simptomları özündən atmaq üçün özünü yazmağa tamamilə həsr edib. əsərlərinin qəliz dili də bundan qaynaqlanır. “Təsadüfi” romanının timsalında aydın olur ki, müəllif insanların paxırlarını açmağı, qaranlıq tərəflərini göstərməyi sevir. Özümü lap Xoşqədəmin verilişində hiss edirdim kitabı bitirəndə. Ailənin 4 üzvünün hər birinin həyatı və cəmiyyətdəki mövqeləri çılpaqlığı ilə əks etdirilir və məniç öhdəmə sanki bütün bunları mühakimə etmək düşür. Deyəcək sözüm isə yoxdur)))

Really enjoyed Smith's light-touch prose and the elision of styles used as the novel moves between characters. Only criticism is a slight lack of ambition, I was left feeling there was much more ground to be covered.

From the Man Booker Prize-shortlisted, Baileys Women's Prize-winning author of How to be both and the critically acclaimed Seasonal quartet 'Brilliant and engaging, frequently hilarious. . . Smith makes one look at the world afresh' Sunday Telegraph 'A beguiling page-turner... To read The Accidental is to be excited from first to last' Independent 'Joyous' The Times The Accidental pans in on the Norfolk holiday home of the Smart family one hot summer. There a beguiling stranger called Amber appears at the door bearing all sorts of unexpected gifts, trampling over family boundaries and sending each of the Smarts scurrying from the dark into the light. A novel about the ways that seemingly chance encounters irrevocably transform our understanding of ourselves, The Accidental explores the nature of truth, the role of fate and the power of storytelling.

Winner of the Whitbread Award for best novel and praised for her "style, ideas, and punch" (Jeanette Winterson), Smith has produced a novel at once profound, playful, and exhilaratingly inventive, as she transfixes readers with a portrait of a family unraveled by a mysterious visitor.
