I read this book for Week 29 of the 2017 Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge (A book published outside the 4 major publishing houses (Simon & Schuster; HarperCollins; Penguin Random House; Hachette Livre)), and also because earlier this year, in September, I discovered the movie An American Haunting, which shares not only a name with this book, but the subject. I've done some of my own research into the Bell Witch haunting, and this was interesting to read, even if I cannot take it at face value as it begs you to. Some events were relayed that 'Powell' should never have known about, and the fact that most reports come from the Bell family itself don't help their case either. In any case, it was quick to read and settled some questions I had that my own research did not grant me. If you're interested in a lesser known haunting, I would look up the Bell Witch.

In one word....boring. I just couldn't get into this one. Was looking for a something scary, or at least creepy. This book was neither.
