This was surprisingly excellent, and my favourite in the Scarpetta-a-thon so far. There is some real grit to the plot, and a lot of attention to detail over the forensic resolution of the plot points which is the main reason I liked Cornwell all those years ago in the first place.

Kay is a great character, but it doesn't matter how much I read about her I have never had a firm idea of her in my imagination which is unusual when character is pivotal. 

The character relationship development has become more natural; an effect of the plot and not vice versa - hopefully that continues.
