After seeing the cover for The Bombshell Effect all over Instagram, I checked out the blurb, realized it sounded right up my alley and jumped right in when I saw it was available through Kindle Unlimited. I love a good sports romance — even more when it throws in women in (sadly) untraditional roles — and I’m always down to discover a new author. This was a fun little book that was fairly low on angst and delivered a few laughs and swoons along the way.

Smart, strong, driven heroines are a favorite of mine, so it wasn’t at all surprising that I basically loved Allie from the start. Losing her father, who she wasn’t all that close to but, you know, was still her dad… and inheriting a football team wasn’t exactly in her plans, but she jumped right in. Sure, there were players who wouldn’t take her seriously and that was a problem, but her biggest problem was with her player — and neighbor — Luke. I thought Luke was mostly a good guy — and a good father to his adorable daughter Faith — but some of his preconceived notions about Allie bothered me. Thankfully she was quick to set him straight.

I’m a sucker for a good, slow burn so I was totally digging what was happening between Luke and Allie. They had great chemistry and I’m always down for a forbidden romance between a boss and employee. I only had one complaint about how everything went down and I’m just gonna lay it out there. As I said, I love a good slow burn, but I also need the payoff. When Luke and Allie first hooked up, it was basically a fade to black and I was seriously disappointed. They had so much chemistry and the build up was so good, but it kinda felt like someone popped my balloon. The characters had gotten under my skin at that point and I had a vested interest in knowing how everything wrapped up, but I took an itty bitty break from the book before finishing it.

Despite my disappointment with the lack of sexy times (is that a weird thing to be disappointed by?) I really enjoyed The Bombshell Effect. When it was all said and done, I could look past that and focus on the feels. I just had to adjust my expectations a bit, but once I did, I got back to enjoying the story between Luke, Allie and even Faith. It was a fun, cute story from a new-to-me author.
