Second time reading The Boys of Winter. I wasn't born until 1987 so the Miracle on Ice was before my time and until the 2003 movie "Miracle" I didn't know anything about hockey or this game. Once I saw the movie I was intrigued to learn as much as I could about the game and the circumstances around it. Later I was fortunate enough to work as an intern at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid and got to attend a few hockey games at the Herb Brooks Arena (including a national team match-up between Team USA and Team Canada's women's team-Team USA coached by Mark Johnson). 

This book gives so much time to each play, allowing the reader to learn not just about the game itself but the background of each member of the team. There are "stars" of this team that are well-known but I enjoyed learning about those who have stayed out of the limelight. Each was an integral part of the success of the team and deserved to be highlighted.
