This was so beautiful. I love how it paralleled kestrel and arin's story and gave little hints and insights to the winner's trilogy overall. definitely a worthwhile read!

this made me tear up 😭 arin as a kid made me so emotional, especially knowing what happens to his entire family once the war breaks out. it was nice getting a novella with a bit of backstory on arin and his mom because we got to learn a bit more about their gods and arin's fear of having been born on the year of the god of death. i loved it.

I love stories that sound like fairytales.

Arin's mother is telling him a story about the gods and it is just beautiful. It is about how the stars came to be and it's just such a beautiful story.

It makes me want to go sit out on my roof and star gaze. Even though it is snowing. And it's freezing. But that kind of fits the setting of the story anyway.
