           3.75 - Definitely not as good as "The Lake" but it's still a great book. The plot twist in this story was good but I kind of saw parts of it coming. This was a mix of "A Good Girl's Guide To Murder" and "One of Us is Lying." It didn't do it too well though... The ending was probably my favorite part of the book. It was suspicious for Aaron to confess with a lot of pages left. A lot of things can happen in a span of 10 pages... I had my doubts about Megan! It's always the quiet ones. When she unalived herself, my mouth dropped. My guy Blake and girl Mckenzie deserve better.

Bro what the fuck was this book? It read like a bad fucking wattpad fanfiction where Blake is supposed to be Harry Styles and is like the true hero.

And what the fuck was that ending? You’re telling me a man is going to go to prison for murder (and also the timeline for that makes no sense) that he didn’t commit?

I feel like the plot was there there were just far too many things that made it feel like it was supposed to be fanfiction. There were so many points where it could have been good but it ended up just feeling like all the most cringe worth moments in pretty little liars.

I’ve usually enjoyed Natasha Preston but I honestly kinda hated this one. The “twist” at the end was so glaringly obvious that it made me roll my eyes. The small amount of romance between Mackenzie and Blake was interesting and was the only reason I finished the book.

I absolutely loved it!😍 I loved that the action started straight away and I thought Kenzie's and Blake's relationship was very sweet. The end was very intense, which I loved, although I hate that I was left on a cliffhanger😫

Review:
It was meant to be a fun weekend get away for 6 friends, their expectations of a weekend of partying and drinking is short lived when they wake to fine 2 of their own dead, and everyone is a suspect.

This book was very cliche, you have that romance between Kenzie and Blake which I just didn't really care for all that much. The mystery plot line wasn't the best, in my opinion I thought it was quite obvious who the killer was. 
This book is definitely great when you need a mindless read when you need something quick to read.

Before I get into talking about this book, this was the final book in completing my goodreads challenge for 2016 and I just wanted to take the moment to pat myself on the back okay review time 

I really don't know how to feel about this book. It was very much a 'guily pleasure' where it's not new riveting content but something purely for entertainment. It was quick to read and very dialogue heavy which is something to point out considering that can make or break this book for some readers. The synopsis sold me when it mentioned a murder in a Cabin, I assumed that the majority of the novel would be IN the cabin but boy was I wrong. Most of the story happens outside of the cabin after two of the friends are murdered overnight. Mackenzie takes it upon herself to investigate (alongside a stereotypical macho bad-boy love interest) to find out what happened that night. A lot of the book was heavy on the "romance" between these two characters and many times had me cringing because of how badly the macho bad-boy was forced to fit into that mold of a character. He had so much potential to not be that 2-dimensional yet that's what he ended up being. I will most likely make a video where I discuss this book more because I feel I have a lot to say and this written review would turn into an essay and I don't want to put you through reading all that

BASICALLY this book was a quick read that lacked in depth. It romanticized underage drinking and drugs to the point that these characters didn't even seem like teenagers. It was dialogue heavy with some cringey moments with an intriguing mystery that kept you untrustworthy of every character.

I buddy read this book with a friend, blindly picking it up on a shopping trip with no prior knowledge of the author, or wattpad honestly. The story was fun, and a great fast paced thriller for spooky season. The writing style was easy to follow, and everything moved pretty quickly, sometimes too quickly, but I'd rather have that than constant slow pauses. I will say the most heart pounding action for me was in the last chapter or two. Things got really good, really fast, just to end as quickly as it started. The ending feels open to a potential sequel, so maybe we'll see more in the future. Overall, great pace, fun story, and an ending that left me shocked and confused. 🤣

This is my third foray into the world of Natasha Preston and I'm sure most people would only have stopped at one. Especially when I consider one of her books- The Cellar, which I've talked about at length here- to be one of the worst books of all time. But when I found out she came out with another thriller, and one that used to be on her Wattpad, for crying out loud, I jumped on it. Just an aside, but stay away from books that mention any of the author's social media on the cover. That's a principle to live by.

I think my favorite part about Natasha Preston's writing is her dialogue. In this book, Mackenzie's conversations with Blake take the fucking cake. My favorite is her first conversation with him, which is where the quote from under the picture came from. After all, when you meet someone for the first time, don't you like to go on a walk with them to discuss all their deepest, darkest secrets?

Of course, Preston's writing style is just bad to begin with. One thing I noticed about her writing is that she does try to show us things instead of telling us them, but then she tells us it anyway. Like when one of the characters apparently hates to admit he's wrong. She literally writes something along the lines as "the grimace on his face made his apology look painful" and then directly after that she says "Aaron was stubborn and hated to admit he was wrong." Like no shit, we got that the first time. Maybe she thinks her readers are stupid and don't know how to put two and two together. Of course, it could also be a sign of a writer insecure in her own style, in which case reviews like this probably don't help much, but I'm not her therapist what do I know?

Also, some of her word choices are just bad. Like at one point she describes the (male) detective as having a "swollen belly". What was he, pregnant?

She's not too good at characters and character relations either. I would say character development, but all the characters in here remain pretty stagnant. If you want a better look at Preston's idea of character development try Awake (though you'll find it's about as instant as her idea of love). Seriously, the first time Blake pulled up on page I about lost it. He's a bad boy. With a leather jacket and heavy boots and scruffy dark hair and a piercing gaze. And he's broody and has circular conversations and asks girls he doesn't know what their deepest darkest secrets are. And apparently that's how he gets mad pussy. But deep down inside he's a wounded, tortured soul and is in desperate need of a Miss Pollyanna to bring it out in him.
